Number of employees - source edit

I'm wondering if anyone has a source for the number of employees for Barclaycard (10,300) quoted in the info box at the start of this article. It sounds right, but I can't find verification for it anywhere.109.231.192.149 (talk) 17:10, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've removed "Nagative Points" edit

Being the largest credit card company in UK, the company has it Call Centers based in India and other third world countries. Having said that, the financial details of its customers are vulnerable to get stolen. In addition to this, Barclaycard's customer services has always been criticised of being condescending towards its customers. In addition to this, it is one of the few credit card companies that would record non/late payments immediately to the customers credit history unlike other companies who always give their customers a second chance.

I've removed the above piece from the article. On the whole I believe it to be written by someone who has had a negative experience with Barclaycard and therefore wrote the piece with the sole intention of criticising Barclaycard and its services. It's also mostly speculation. The sole piece which could be added to the article would be the fact that Barclaycard has call centres in India (although this would need to be verified since last I heard they were pulling out). -- (A.szczep) 15:12, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

And any why would having call centres in India be negative? Not negative for the indians working in them. This is simply WP:POV and WP:OR. Quite right to remove. I know this is a long while ago but sometimes it helps still for future readers to add weight. SimonTrew (talk) 18:19, 24 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

numbers don't match edit

the article, in the first four paragraphs, contains both the statements "Barclaycard claims it is Europe's leading issuer of credit cards with 11 million in circulation" and "Barclaycard has 19.2 million customers in the UK" clarification is needed over the difference. Artlondon 22:58, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, it's Sara from the Barclaycard PR team here, the correct number of customers in the UK as at Feb 09 is 11.7m. Because I'm from Barclaycard I don't want to edit myself. As a citation here's a link to the annual results which confirm the figures

http://www.investorrelations.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brcucontrol?task=file&site=inv&fileName=/INV/A/Content/Files/FY08_Results_Announcement_Final.pdf —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.50.220.12 (talk) 11:15, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I added a reference to the 11.7m from barclays website. Unfortunately their main website is all Flash stuff where you can't find anything so I've linked to a relatively recent (09-Mar-2009) press release with an "About Barclaycard" section. PDF link above does not work-- just redirects to "where we operate" (internal access only?).
I was a bit narky on the reference adding saying "Barclaycard couldn't be bothered" to add a ref. I see your point now why not to add yourself, although the user who actually changed the figure is from Barclaycard-- don't see the problem there if it's factual and not promotional (not that the two are exclusive). So, sorry about that. SimonTrew (talk) 18:11, 24 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Making an update to this: latest figure is 10.4 million customers in the UK and 10.8 million outside the UK (source: [1]) I'll make this change early next week if there are no queries here. Bethgranter (talk) 09:13, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Precision of money sums on the Barclaycard in the 1970s edit

To which precision are money sums saved on the Barclaycard in the 1970s? --88.78.7.190 (talk) 09:28, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image needed edit

Apparently the logo image that was on the page was deleted per no Fair Use Rationale at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&wpDestFile=Barclaycard_logo.gif. If someone can contact the Deleting Admin or make a deletion review on it and make a fair use rationale on this image as it would be nice to have. Since there's probably no free use equivalent It should be restore and have a fair use rationale added to it. Sawblade05 (talk to me | my wiki life) 12:19, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Refimprove edit

I think this needs Template:refimprove. There are a couple of references but not covering all the soccer stuff etc. Comments? SimonTrew (talk) 18:15, 24 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Credit card edit

From the article atm: "The Barclaycard was the first credit card introduced in the UK, coming into service in 1966. It enjoyed a monopoly until the introduction of the Access card in 1972." Is this right? Here it suggests Diners Club 1962, AA 1963 (BBC)Hakluyt bean (talk) 04:15, 31 January 2010 (UTC).Reply

Removing debit card edit

Barclaycard no longer do Debit Cards so I'm removing reference to debit cards. List of their products here shows no debit cards, only credit cards: [2] I'll make this change early next week if there are no queries here. Bethgranter (talk) 09:13, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Website URL is incorrect edit

Barclays website is different from Barclaycard. The Barclaycard websites are http://www.barclaycard.com and http://www.barclaycard.co.uk I'll make this change early next week if there are no queries here. Bethgranter (talk) 09:13, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Timeline edit

To help make it read less like an advertisement, I'm removing the word 'innovative'. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to improve this further? Should I rewrite it more like the International timeline without the 'was first to...' bits? Bethgranter (talk) 09:13, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Barclaycard International edit

The sentence 'Barclaycard International claims that to date 1.8 million cards have been issued and that over 35,000 transactions are processed daily.' is very out of date, and there isn't an up to date reference, so I'm going to remove it early next week. Bethgranter (talk) 09:13, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Providian edit

I'm going to add 'known as Monument' in the sentence: 'In 2002 Barclaycard took over the UK wing of the American Company Providian National Bank, known as Monument, when it was sold off due to financial irregularities of its American parent company.' Source: [3]

I'm also going to add 'Barclaycard sold the Monument business and premises to Compucredit in 2007'. Source: [4].

Tweaks to International timeline edit

To create consistency (in line with main timeline), I suggest adding 'Barclaycard' to the timeline as follows:

  • • 1991: Barclaycard launches in Germany
  • • 1997: Barclaycard launches its Dollar Card
  • • 1998: Barclaycard launches in France
  • • 1999: Barclaycard launches in Spain and Greece
  • • 2001: Barclaycard launches in Botswana
  • • 2002: Barclaycard launches in Italy
  • • 2003: A collaborative credit card agreement with Standard Bank in South Africa is launched
  • • 2004: Barclaycard launches in Ireland, Portugal and Egypt; acquires U.S. credit card issuer Juniper Financial Corporation
  • • 2007: Irish portfolio is sold to Bank of Scotland (Ireland)
  • • 2007: Barclaycard launches in India and Dubai

I'll make these changes late next week if no-one has any queries. As stated in my bio, Barclaycard are a client and so I'm operating under full disclosure. My aim is to tidy up and update the wiki entry.--Rossrobot (talk) 15:23, 26 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

New 'Acquisitions' section, to include existing Providian section and new 'Egg' section edit

I propose creating a new section named Acquisitions, to include the existing Providian section, and this new Egg section:

Egg

In March 2011, Barclays announced that it would be buying the British credit card business arm of Egg from Citigroup for an undisclosed price. At the time of the announcement, Barclays claimed that the credit card assets comprised of 1.15 million accounts with approximately £2.3bn of gross receivables. [5]. They intend to integrate those customers within their own credit card arm. At the time of the announcement, Citi said it was "committed to working with Barclays on a seamless transfer of the customer accounts, ensuring continuation of the high level of service to which customers are accustomed". [6]. The deal was expected to be completed within the first half of 2011.

New section - Contactless edit

I propose including a new section entitled:

Contactless

Barclays and Barclaycard have been providing contactless debit and credit cards since 2007 and, since May 2011, contactless mobile phones [7], as well as the terminals that accept contactless payments. Barclays and Barclaycard have issued over 11.4 million contactless-enabled cards.

Barclays and Barclaycard provide contactless terminals for around 50,000 outlets in the UK, including:

New section 'Mobile payments' edit

I propose including a new section entitled:

Mobile payments

On 20th May 2011, Barclaycard and Orange launched ‘Quick Tap’ - the UK’s first contactless mobile phone payments service, allowing customers to make contactless purchases on the high street with their mobile phone for the first time. [17] The launch means that, in addition to using contactless cards or chip and PIN, consumers can tap their mobile phone on a contactless reader at tills in over 50,000 stores to make purchases £15 and under. [18]

The service is available to Orange customers who use a ‘Quick Tap’ enabled handset. Barclaycard and Orange launched with a ‘Quick Tap’ enabled version of the Samsung Tocco Lite. [19]

Opening line amendment and removal of FA Premier league line edit

I would like to change the first line from "Barclaycard is a global credit card and loan provider owned by Barclays plc in the UK." to "Barclaycard, part of Barclays Retail and Business Banking, is a global payment business." This is to reflect the evolving product and service set. [20] [21]

I would also like to remove the line "Barclaycard was also the main sponsor of the FA Premier League (from 2001–2004) until Barclays itself took over at the start of the 2004–2005 season." as it is no longer relevant and is covered on the Barclays wiki entry.

I'll make these changes late next week if no-one has any queries or suggestions. As stated in my bio, Barclaycard are a client and so I'm operating under full disclosure. My aim is to tidy up and update the wiki entry.--Robotross (talk) 13:39, 25 November 2011 (UTC) I made this change --Robotross (talk) 10:29, 1 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
