Move target?
editIn the recent article for deletion discussion it seemed like there was significant interest in moving this into a broader topic. Can we decide where it should go? Barack Obama on National Security maybe? 0x0077BE [talk/contrib] 18:44, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
Patriot act?
editThis article seems very lacking in information. There are mountains of information missing. One thing I find troubling is the mention of the patriot act. Mass surveillance has nothing to do with the patriot act. Why are we confusing people trying to make that connection. Has any one in Obama's administration ever suggested that his mass surveillance program is related to the patriot act? Anyone who is fully versed in Obama's mass surveillance program and the patriot act will tell you there is no connection. There are plenty of pages on the patriot act, I just don't see the need to confuse people. We should remove the patriot act section and add a link for it to the see also section. - Multiple sections of the Patriot Act made it easier for the government to perform mass searches, and Obama made multiple comments regarding this. Additionally, many of the sources cited analyze Obama and the Patriot Act in terms of mass surveillance, so I believeits relevant. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 17:57, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- That seems to be the opinion of the article. Having read all versions of the patriot act none of them have anything to mass surveillance. There are many laws that deal with surveillance most including the patriot act ave no connection to mass surveillance. Even this opinion laced article never once makes the connection. This is a small article but I don't see the need to include to mention the patriot act unless some connection is made. I have never once read a credible source where Obama uses the patriot act to justify his NSA mas surveillance program. As I said if there is a connection lets make it, if not lets remove the random patriot act section and add patriot act to the see also section.
- If its in a reliable source, its suitable for submission into the article. Also, its pretty common knowledge that the Patriot Act has expanded the legal ability of the United States to monitor American citizens. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 19:29, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Expansion of surveillance powers
editThis should be added to a legacy section.

Obama expands the powers of NSA and CIA agencies to share information on any persons without filter or privacy protection nor without court ordered warrants. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.195.62.173 (talk) 16:18, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
