Bala or Bāla?

They are two different Sanskrit words with two different meanings (as in Balarama versus Baalakrishna). I suppose that due to the phonological similarity they could have become confused in popular speech in multiple languages, but this article should make it clear which original word is being used. Balakrishnan

Is Balakrishnan the same in meaning as Balakrishna? What does the final "N" signify? Badagnani (talk) 20:53, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

I realise that it's been fourteen years since this question's been posed, but for the benefit of those reading this in the future, the "n" that appears at the end of such names is a South Indian suffix, usually employed as a male name. For instance, the deity Krishna is called Krishna or respectfully Krishnar in Tamil, but Krishnan would typically be a male name. It could also be interpreted to mean, "he who is like Krishna".
