"Iran and Azerbaijan are treated as two separate entities in the film. Although many Azerbaijani scholars assert that during this period the population of the region was Turkic, hence different from the rest of Iran, some Iranian sources maintain that people were predominantly Persian and the region should be considered as part of greater Iran. In the film, Tabriz is clearly referenced to as Azerbaijani land."
This is a biased statement. It is not "some Iranian sources" that maintain that people in Azerbaijan were Persian at the time of Babak Khorramdin, It is all reputable sources that state this. Babak was born in 795 or 798, the Turks migrated to Azerbaijan in the 11th century.
