AvialAvial_(band) — Relisting. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:00, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Avial is a well known Kerala dish whereas the band is relatively new and less notable. Avial should redirect to Aviyal Sulfis (talk) 20:44, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. If the best name for this article is Avial and the best name for the other is Aviyal, there is no conflict. The hatnote, second sentence and Name section take care of any possible confusion (btw, the alternative spelling is not even mentioned at Aviyal). Station1 (talk) 21:22, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose for reasons given by Station1. Skinsmoke (talk) 13:44, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - both the above comments are incorrect, completely ignoring the fact that transcription of this word into English is far from standardised. Just do even the most rudimentary search - it is clear that avial is a very common spelling for the vegetable dish, and indeed a strong contender for the primary topic. The best solution according to our naming policies is to have Avial as a disambiguation page with the band article moving as per the move request. Knepflerle (talk) 19:20, 12 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment No, if there are only two meanings we don't have a disambiguation page. We deal with it by hatnotes. Skinsmoke (talk) 04:13, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Wrong again - it's not a simple matter of numbers, it depends on whether one is primary topic or not; WP:DAB#Disambiguation page or disambiguation links?: "if there are two topics for a term but neither is considered the primary topic, then a disambiguation page is used." Although the vegetable dish might be a contender for primary topic for this spelling, it's probably wiser to use the disambiguation page as there is also an airline Avial NV to consider. Knepflerle (talk) 08:01, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
A legitimate way to disambiguate article titles is "another term ... that is equally clear and unambiguous" (WP:NCDAB). Aviyal seems to be a legitimate way to spell the dish (perhaps the preferred way) but not the band name. The airline is actually a stronger argument in favor of the change, but it is certainly not the primary usage, so I just added it as a hatnote. It's best to avoid dab pages when they are not necessary, because no one wants to end up on a dab page; with the current set-up, those looking for the food or airline can get to those articles just as quickly as they would from a dab page, but without inconveniencing those who want the band. Station1 (talk) 16:58, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Since I initiated the discussion, I am not sure whether I am allowed to have a separate support comment. The key point as mentioned by Knepflerle is that the vegetarian dish is the primary topic and the rock group is in fact named after this dish. --Sulfis (talk) 12:57, 14 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: pages moved to Avial (band) per discussion here and at Talk:Avial. - GTBacchus(talk) 23:28, 2 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

AvialAvial_band — Avial is the name of the dish that Kerala is famous for, and therefore the first choice to have the avial page. Since this is the band - less known and derived from the dish, it should be avial_band - this would also be the accepted standard across wikipedia for songs / bands with names based on existing cultural phenomena Adityaanupkumar (talk) 16:23, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. A bit surprised this is even controversial. Andrewa (talk) 17:46, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Conditional Support. If Aviyal and Avial are indeed alternative spelling of the same thing the naming convention is clear that the version not chosen for the location of the article should redirect to the one that is. The band should then be located at Avial (band), not Avial band. — Blue-Haired Lawyer t 18:47, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Genre of the band edit

Please do not invent genres for Avial. "Malayali Rock" isn't a proper genre and is original research, which violates Wikipedia policies. So please stick to the rules of Wikipedia. Regards! — Finemann (talk) 20:54, 23 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Kyra theatre performance in 2009 or 2010? edit

Both photos File:Avial kyra theatre.jpg and File:Avial Tony John 2.jpg clearly are uploaded/taken on 2009 but NH7's article on this indicate it's in 2010. I've making it 2010 in the article but I'm really not sure about this. Maybe they performed at Kyra twice? -Ugog Nizdast (talk) 07:24, 14 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
