editThere needs to be a disambiguation link. The word "Avari" can also be used in the context of the Avar tribe of Eastern Europe and Western Asia in the first millennium AD. 68.225.88.31 05:41, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I think this page may need some revising, because I'm pretty sure that the elves living in Mirkwood (including Legolas) were Avari. Their people as such were never compelled to leave Middle-Earth in droves like the Noldor, unless, like Legolas, they came to the sea and felt the longing.
- They were actually Telerin in origin, as they did set out on the march to Valinor, but held back at the Anduin or Hithaeglir. The true Avari never left Cuivienen until that place was lost. Avari don't appear in the tales asides from small references. Jordi·✆ 13:54, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, there is a passage in "Quendi and Eldar" which states that Lindarin Avari became merged with the Nandorin and Sindarin remnants in Eriador and the Vale of Anduin. We don't know exactly when Cuiviénen was lost, but we do know that some Avari made it as far west as Beleriand; so it's probable that the Penni first began their merging with the Nandor in the Vale of Anduin in that migration (especially considering that that Avarin dialect would become the dominant language in the area until Sindarin lords took over). -- Faenor Mornedhel 20:01, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
Fate of the Avari
editI {{fact}} tagged this section out of concern that it may be somewhat speculative and without grounding in the texts. CIreland (talk) 04:23, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
