I was having a debate with someone as to how this word is pronounced. Could someone please explain the pronunciation of the word Auchindoun? That would be greatly appreciated.

The locals either say Ahk_in_dune or more commonly Ock_in_dune. Auchindouner (talk) 11:17, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Additional Lyrics

Hi, I came to this page to double check the lyrics for the song The Burning of Auchindoun as my mother used to sing it in Aberdeenshire, but the lines I was looking for aren't here. After some frantic googling I found them in Child 183 version A:

Coming down Deeside, In a clear morning, Auchindown was in flame, Ere the cock-crawing.

But coming oer Cairn Croom, And looking down, man, I saw Willie Macintosh Burn Auchindown, man,

`Bonny Willie Macintosh, Whare left ye your men?' `I left them in the Stapler, But they'll never come hame.'

`Bonny Willie Macintosh, Whare now is your men?' `I left them in the Stapler, Sleeping in their sheen.'

Though my family's version of the song also finished with the fantastic "Crawing" verse from Child 183 B. This page only seems to have the Child's version B lyrics, and a scout around youtube shows several folk groups all using version B with not a trace of poor old version A. The mention of local places like the Stapler (elsewhere written Stepler) is more obscure, but as a child I remember my father, who spent quite a time in the local history records in the library reading up on the doings of the Gordon family, taking me to the song's wild locations in the Cabrach and explaining to me the background of the feud and something of what went on - so for me those references add a lot of colour. Would it be appropriate to add Chile B to this page or is there some copyright issue involved?
