Merge Discussion edit

It was suggested that Atari 2600 be merged with this article, so I figured I'd start the discussion. This was linked from the merge template on that article. Please indicate whether you Support or Oppose the merge below.

  • Oppose: The hardware article contains great technical information on the A2600, but does not address the console's historical or cultural significance as the main article does. I think these two articles should stay separate, and perhaps the hardware section of the main article should be trimmed in favor of expanding this one. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 06:04, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: The hardware page has great potential to be expanded to include information about different first-party and third-party input devices and peripherals. While the main article can emphasis the historical and cultural impact. There are also pages dedicated to different aspects of the Atari 2600 - TIA, for instance. Anyway, thanks for starting the discussion. -DevinCook (talk) 06:42, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose: All the material in hardware was just split off of the main 2600 article not long ago. Kiefer's and Devin's viewpoints cover all of mine. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 06:48, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Opposition noted: I've removed the merge tags from both pages. Thanks for your input! Marchije (talk) 15:21, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Joystick edit

The 2600 joystick became something of an industry standard, used by many computers and consoles of the 1980s. I assume Atari didn't copyright the design? 2fort5r (talk) 19:31, 16 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
