This is the standard message that has been mailed to such authors at least from 2012 to 2017. This deserves to be mentioned in the article, since most other scientific journals accept articles based on their scientific merit alone. Talnat (talk) 01:37, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Do you have a reliable source for this information? If you have such a reliable source, then you can cite that to support the information, and then it will become acceptable to put this information on Wikipedia. Acceptable sources would be the A&A website, which lists no such information, or other similar reliable sources, or a published update to editorial policy in A&A. The only thing I can find about this is a bunch of complaints on Reddit and/or Quora and other similar self-published sites from some guy named Marco Pereira. It's possible such a policy is in place at A&A, but I'm not aware this is the case. I'm pretty sure I know several people who publish in A&A that aren't members of "astronomical research institutes", unless that by "astronomical research institutes" they also include physics & astronomy departments. Actually this is already in the article in the form of "A&A will henceforth consider applications for sponsoring membership from any country in the world with well-documented active and excellent astronomical research.", now supported with a reference. "Premier" journal

The lead currently has this sentence: It is one of the premier journals for astronomy in the world. Can we cite a reliable source for this (as is done in the article for The New England Journal of Medicine)? Or better yet, can we remove it as WP:PUFFERY, and replace it with some facts that point to the journal's prominence? I'm not quite sure what facts would be appropriate in this case. Maybe pointing to a few particular highly notable/impactful papers that have been published in the journal? Or are there any reliable rankings of astronomy journals? We could mention its impact factor in the lead, but that number by itself is hard to interpret without context. Colin M (talk) 22:36, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
