Is there a good reason why this should not be moved to the English title, Association of the Guides and Scouts of Europe? It seems a clear translation. --Bduke (Discussion) 20:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

That is for when there is a commonly accepted or used English name, in this case the french name is used. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 01:47, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
But do they state that Association of the Guides and Scouts of Europe is their accepted translation? If they do, we should use it, whatever they call themselves. --Bduke (Discussion) 04:03, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, they don't use or accept it - they are conservative and French ;-) Using English is only the last resort for most French speaking people, when nothing else helps understanding another. Proper names, organizational names etc are near to never translated. BTW: One of my Scouting friends is Walloon, but lives in Sweden. Usually we speak French or Swedish, even whith my (and her) English being far better than my knowledge of French or Swedish. And it is the same with French speaking Swiss etc...
It is one of several possible translations of the French name of the organization, possibly the most probable; other translations include: "European Guides and Scouts Association", "Guides and Scouts Association of Europe", "Association of European Guides and Scouts". I included only for information's sake, but we can delete this home-made translation if it confuses other users.
Association of the Guides and Scouts of Europe is also one of several valid translations for the names of the Czech and the Portuguese members of UIGSE. If we would move this article, we would need a disambiguation page. --jergen (talk) 10:03, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
