aircraft inventory table edit

Hi.. recently VolgaDnper1488 (talk · contribs), add table of aircraft inventory on this page. I am reverting his edit because of 1) it's already mentioned in first paragraph of "Air Force" section, 2)potentially duplication with list List of Afghan Air Force aircraft, and 3) such table usually used for current inventory of "active air force", i dont think it's appropriate not for defunct air force as it should show number of aircraft on certain periods of time. Ckfasdf (talk) 09:02, 20 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Reader to WP:WHENTABLE, a prose (as show on first paragraph of the section) is preferred over a table. So, I will remove the table. Ckfasdf (talk) 06:57, 22 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

What evidence of continuity edit

What evidence exists of continuity of this historic armed force with the current de facto army of Taliban-ruled Afghanistan?

I agree. Do we have any references about the 'Islamic Defence Force of Afghanistan,' either? Buckshot06 (talk) 07:49, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I believe the following pro-Taliban Twitter account have the proof of the continuity of the 'Islamic Defence Force of Afghanistan'. https://twitter.com/TalibanSoldiers/ - Hu753 (talk) 08:29, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hope you do mind me doing minor refactoring, Hu753. What I am most concerned about at present is the name of the article. Where are the references for 'Islamic Defence Force of Afghanistan,' as the designation of the force. 'Military of the Taliban' would be the placeholder designation in line with common practice when we do not have a clear designation, and certainly Giustozzi 2016 does not either (a) separate the Taliban 1996-01 from the continuity of the Afghan Army to that date, or (b) use anything like 'Islamic Defence Force of Afghanistan.' Buckshot06 (talk) 14:41, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
You are more than welcome to rename the article to 'Military of the Taliban', if need be. - Hu753 (talk) 04:46, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
The Taliban only just announced they're considering the creation of a regular military, indicating that no such military currently exists. Presenting a continuity would be original research and WP:SYNTH. As of now the armed forces of the IEA are still simply called "the Taliban" by most reliable sources. Lightspecs (talk) 04:08, 17 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Per above, this article is now heavily affected by original synthesis. — Alalch Emis (talk) 14:15, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

pre take over guns. edit

What about pre take over guns like the Lee-Enfield, RPG-7, Mosin-Nagant, and even the Martini-Henry. And what about pre take over artillery like the Type 63 and 107mm free-flight rockets? and other non-mentioned Taliban vehicles like the BTR-60, BMPs, and technicals? --Garmin21 (talk) 18:33, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Name change edit

Given the official name is Islamic Army of Afghanistan, shouldn't this article's name reflect that rather than "Military of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan"?--RM (Be my friend) 20:12, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Armed Forces of the Islamic Emirate of AfghanistanAfghan Armed Forces – Unnecessary disambiguation. All countries follow this format, despite having gone through many iterations of their militaries. History of the Afghan Armed Forces (2002–2021) should also be merged here. All this forking with so little content is nonstandard and unnecessary. 25stargeneral (talk) 08:25, 6 November 2022 (UTC) — Relisting.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:39, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

05:30, 8 February 2022 Anthony Appleyard talk contribs block 84 bytes +84 Anthony Appleyard moved page Afghan Armed Forces to Military of Afghanistan: Requested by Tartan357 at WP:RM/TR: This is a general article covering the country's militaries of several regimes. "Afghan Armed Forces" is not a proper noun, that was the Afghan National Security Forces in the last government.

and that this is not the only previous move. Andrewa (talk) 14:41, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Strong oppose Afghan Armed Forces was refer to former Republic regime military Afghan Armed Forces (2002–2021) wich is now the part of history; official name of the current Taliban regime military is Islamic Emirate Armed Forces. 103.255.6.87 (talk) 17:27, 18 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Relisting note - there's a broad support for the measure, but also a note about previous moves and possible mergers, so another week of listing might produce some new views.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:39, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: Upon reading Andrewa's comment, I have decided to change my position and recommend that History of the Afghan Armed Forces (2002–2021) instead be merged into Afghan National Security Forces, since Afghan National Security Forces is the official name of the military and internal security forces of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. - Hu753 (talk) 11:12, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Possible to expand the Special Forces section? edit

Are there enough sources to allow for an expansion in detail for the special forces the Taliban currently possess?

- Taliban soldier described by Human Rights Watch as a "special forces soldier"

- Fox News Local report using a quote "a special operations unit of the Taliban that is being deployed not just in Kabul but elsewhere as well that has provided a completely different picture. No more just the sons of farmers and shepherds, a ragtag bunch of religious terrorists, but a special operations group comparable, perhaps, with the best in the world."

- Long War Journal Reporting that "images showed well-armed and equipped Taliban fighters from its special forces in various stages of training." 2601:600:9681:FFA0:1D05:DEEA:37B6:73C9 (talk) 06:40, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Afghan Armed ForcesArmed Forces of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan – Match name from lead and infobox. Eurohunter (talk) 19:32, 19 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose: The lead and infobox titles often differ from the article title and need not mirror it directly. See WP:TITLE. WPscatter t/c 20:02, 19 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per Wpscatter and lack of any references for the proposed title. Is there any entity officially designated as the Armed Forces of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan? A better move might be to change the infobox title to 'Afghan Armed Forces.' Buckshot06 (talk) 01:37, 20 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
