Major Revision edit

I am starting a major revision of this article. The article was one of a catagory of articles on the various state National Guard organizations, which contained no state specific information, but just gave a generic backgound on the National Guard in general. I have started by borrowing heavily from the exisiting Wikipedia articles on the varrious Arkansas National Guard units and I intend to rely heavily on the Official Arkansas National Guard website.[1] , The Arkansas National Guard Museum website varrious Annual Reports from the state Adjutant General, and a paper entitled Arkansas Army and Air National Guard, A Histor and Record of Events, 1820-1962, Prepared by Harry W. Smith, Colonel, Retired, Historian, Arkansas Military Department, 21 December 1962.

Considering Breaking Up edit

Because of the length, I am considering breaking the article into the following parts:

  • History of the Territorial Militia, 1803-1836. This would be fairly short, but there is some additional information not currently included which needs to be added.
  • History of the Arkansas State Guard, 1836-1903. This would cover the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Militia actions during Reconstruction, and the Spanish American War.
  • History of the Arkansas National Guard, 1903-1950. This would begin with the reorganization of the Guard under the 1903 National Defense Act, also known as the Dick Act, which changed the name from State Guard to National Guard and provided Federal Funding, and continue through WWI until the creation of the Air National Guard as a separate department.
  • History of the Arkansas Army National Guard, 1950 to Present. This article would begin with the Korean Conflict and continue through the Global War on Terrorism.
  • History of the Arkansas Air National Guard, 1950 to Present. This article would begin with the Korean Conflict and continue through the Global War on Terrorism.

Orphaned references in Arkansas Army National Guard edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Arkansas Army National Guard's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "lineage":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. Damon.cluck (talk) 01:21, 9 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

New Plan for Split of Article edit

I have a new plan for the split of this article. I am built a new template for a Arkansas National Guard Series Template:Arkansas National Guard Series and I am using it as a guide for the split. I am developing the Splits in my user space, correcting the referencing issue which the split creates, and writing new lead sections and then moving them to the live area. Arkansas Militia in the Civil War is complete and has been moved to the live section.

  • Arkansas National Guard Series
  • Arkansas Territorial Militia
  • Arkansas Militia and the War with Mexico
  • Arkansas Regiment of Mounted Volunteers
  • Arkansas Militia in Reconstruction
  • Arkansas Militia in the Civil War
  • Arkansas State Guard and the War with Spain
  • Arkansas National Guard and World War I
  • Arkansas National Guard and World War II
  • Arkansas National Guard and the Cold War
  • Arkansas Army National Guard and the Korean War
  • Arkansas National Guard at Central High
  • Arkansas National Guard in Operation Desert Storm
  • Arkansas National Guard and the Global War on Terrorism

The Big Split is Complete! edit

The Article has been split in to the following sub parts. I will leave the main article unchanged for a few more days and will then delete the History Section and just put links to the following articles:

Template:Arkansas National Guard Series
Arkansas National Guard
Arkansas Territorial Militia
Arkansas Militia and the War with Mexico
Arkansas Militia in the Civil War
Arkansas Militia in Reconstruction
Arkansas State Guard and the Spanish-American War
Arkansas Air National Guard
Arkansas National Guard and the Intergration of Central High School
Arkansas National Guard during World War I
Arkansas National Guard and World War II
Arkansas Army National Guard and the Cold War
Arkansas Army National Guard and the Global War on Terrorism
Arkansas Army National Guard and the Korean War
Arkansas Army National Guard in Operation Desert Storm

The big delete edit

Since the article has now been split in to a series, it is time to reduce the size of the main article accordingly. All the history content has moved to the Arkansas National Guard Series. I will reduce the history section of the main article to a much shorter version designed to point readers to the series.

casulity lists edit

at the risk of getting hammered by the drama queens- I dont think we really need every causlity of every war of every unit listed on the ol wiki. unless of course your into listing half the population of the country. know what I mean vern. and if your going to do it, at least confine it to the unit page so its spread out. Assessment comment edit

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Arkansas Army National Guard/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

The article is currently a solid C-Class article. The following changes need to be made for it to become a B-Class article:
  • Several sections need to be expanded or merged into larger sections.
  • The huge lists need to either be split off into another article, or merged into the prose in a mannerly fashion.
  • The lead section needs to be shortened while still reasonably summarizing the entire article.
Hope that helps. --Coffee // have a cup // essay // 03:27, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
