FC Karpaty Lviv
editWill the team use the stadium. 210.6.121.100 (talk) 12:42, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Name of the stadium
editHi all
I have hidden these statements for several reasons. I have not done it without though nor for any other reason than for neutraliy and truth. I am willing to remain neutral on this as I am not Ukrainian nor Polish.
Nonetheless, one of the members of Lviv council from BYuT rushed to disclose one of the variations in the interview to Mediastar.[1] Mr. Novozhenets stated that the stadium should be named after Stepan Bandera, the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. This information caused a major scandal in Polish media, since Stepan Bandera's OUN faction is said to bear primary responsibility for murdering over 100,000 Poles in years 1942-1944[2]
- The text may be innacurate. I have read the refs and the reports from other sources. Although it appears Novozhenets did suggest calling it "Bandera" stadium he was not revealing a name that either Lviv council, or any other council, or the members of Euro 2012 in Ukraine have suggested nor is it anything that they have hinted at. He was simply stating his opinion.
- "Rostislav Novozhenets, a councillor in the Lviv region, said that the working name of the stadium, “Lemberg” (Lviv in German), is causing outrage among the city’s residents, and proposed to change the name to one which Lviv’s inhabitants “can be proud.” [3]
- "With this initiative there is a deputy of the Lviv council peripheral Rostyslav Nowożenec. In his opinion, would be proud inhabitants of Lviv if the new stadium was named after the leaders of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists." Google translation from the cited ref[2]
- The fact is that it has caused a stir in both Poland AND Ukraine "The Sevodnya daily, based in Kyiv, has called the move “scandalous,”" From the ref[3]
- The Lviv council leader stated it was not chosen and might be sold by tender, the Director of Euro 2012 in Ukraine Markiyan Lubkivskiy, said it was not chosen
- "Markiyan Lubkivskiy believes that it is still too early to name the as yet unbuilt stadium. According to Lubkivskiy, the idea to name the stadium after Bandera would politicise the tournament. “The public should be consulted when choosing the name for the stadium,” he added."[3]

1 It is a personal opinion, 2 not connected with any statment from an official body to do with the stadium, 3 POV, 4 poorly sourced.
3 - the POV here is that the text has infalted it to something more than what it is. The text does not say anything about Ukrainian views, even they are in the original sources. The individual making the suggestion is stating a personal opinion. There text states, incorrectly, that he "rushed to disclose" as if this was somthing that was being hidden by the council or others.
4- There are not enough english sources as yet in Google or any other search that I can find that mentions the incident and so not enough fact can gleaned at this moment in time. The sources are not reliable as they may not be notable or reliable enough : Newsweek quotes from a nother newspaper but it does not seem to give that papers name, nor can i establish whther it is a purely online site and to what extent it vets it reporters and their articles. (although they do not seem that bad IMO)
There are not many sources coming up in a google search, and although there may be others in Polish and Ukrainian, until there are more reliable sources I suggest that it be left out completely.
No one is going to dismantle Arena Lviv?
editBecause it falls under WP:SPECULATION I post it here, so we can keep a look-out. There are rumors that the stadium and the club that plays in it (FC Karpaty Lviv) will both disappear in the near future. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 16:29, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
