How big is it really?

edit

The article on the DMZ states:

The biggest limitation of the Ara Canal is it is too narrow to handle any vessels except small tourist boats and recreational boats, so Seoul still cannot receive large commercial ships or passenger ships in its port.

while the article on river itself states:

This eighteen kilometer Ara Canal was completed in 2012 and now links the Han River near Gimpo in Seoul to Incheon. It can accommodate both large container and passenger vessels.

Clearly one of these articles must be incorrect. Fixing them would be easier if this article was clear on the matter. The article currently states that it's "western sea locks" are 210 by 28.5 meters in size and the "Han river lock" is 150 by 22 meters; is this sufficient for "large commercial ships or passenger ships"? What about the depth of the canal – is that sufficient either? The Controversies section currently states:

A year after the canal opened, the volume of goods transported via the canal was just over 5% of this estimated demand.

where the "estimated demand" included, among other things, "294,000 TEU of containers ... and 600,000 passengers". Based on this, the former article appears to be right in that the canal is too small for commercial shipping; but I'm no canal expert. — oatco (talk) 19:39, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
