@A.S. Brown: Any relation to Raynald Desjardins who was an associate of the Rizzuto crime family and was sentenced to prison for the murder of Salvatore Montagna? Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:23, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Dear @Vaselineeeeeeee:, I don't believe so. I have been curious about that myself, but so far I have not able to establish a link. I checked The Encyclopedia of Canadian Organized Crime by Michel Auger and Peter Edwards, which has an entry on Raynald Desjardins, which does not mention any family link with Andre Desjardins, which I presume it would if there was a link. Desjardins is a very common French-Canadian surname so there is probably a distant relationship going back to the 17th century. There are about 6 million French-Canadians today who are the descendants of about 800 French immigrants who came to New France as Quebec was called in the 17th century, which explains why French-Canadians are one of the most genetically homogeneous groups in North America. Precisely because most French-Canadians are descended from about 800 settlers, the same surnames show up over and over again, like Bouchard, Desjardins, Trudeau, Boucher, Tremblay, Pelletier and so on. So both Desjardins are probably descended from the same Desjardins who came over from France in the 17th century, but as far I can tell there is no immediate family link. Thanks for the asking! Cheers! --A.S. Brown (talk) 20:43, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
