I came across this article while searching for the page on Ancalagon the Black, the mightiest of all dragon in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earthlegendarium. I am assuming this genus derives its name from Tolkien's work, rather than the other way around? As I believe Tolkien derived the dragon's name from one of his own invented languages, Sindarin.
