Genre

Untitled

The song, "Alone Again (Naturally)" is attributed to Gilbert O'Sullivan, and was released in 1972. What is interesting is that in 1980, my grandmother played an old 78 recording of this song for me. I'm not sure how far back this recording dated, but it had to be the 1930's or 1940's. I don't know if anyone in my family saved my grandmother's 78 records, but I will check. My father, who died in 1999, told me this song was popular in the 1930s. I have a distinct memory of hearing Gilbert O'Sullivan's version playing on the radio and my father singing along. Not seeing the reference for the 5th most popular song of the decade.

I think it's an interesting topic: What were the most popular songs of the 1970s? And I can see how "You Light Up My Life" might be 1st and "Alone Again (Naturally)" might be 5th. I'm just not finding the reference. (This is a claim we make in our lead.)

HIMSELF?

I don't find this song on the album "Himself", which was released in August 1971 (Alone Again was released as a single in Feb 1972). Instead, I show it on the EP titled "Alone Again (Naturally)" released in October of 1972. Both the EP and the Album contain simular cover art, however.Atocha (talk) 23:08, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

The lyrics say "To think that only yesterday. I was cheerful, bright and gay." So we can probably assume this means "jolly" not "homosexual". And it was yesterday. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:18, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
