recall Gerhard Wagner declining bishop appointment in 2009
editFor the subject Cardinal, I find:
"As Archbishop, he declared the 1925 Amalfi earthquake an expression of God's wrath for short skirts in current women's fashion."
This reminds me of more recent case of Gerhard Wagner of Austria. He was a priest of the diocese of Linz who made controversial remark that Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for sin in New Orleans. He then was appointed auxiliary bishop of Linz, but that too became controversial, and with permission, he gave up that appointment (i.e., continued as priest but did not become a bishop). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.63.16.20 (talk) 19:43, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
