 – Keep separate articles.

Request received to merge articles: Alberta Highway 40 and Alberta Highway 734 into Forestry Trunk Road; dated: December 2017. Proposer's Rationale: Alberta Highway 40 and Alberta Highway 734 / Forestry Trunk Road (FTR) basically cover the same route with the two articles having significant overlap. The historical name for the corridor is the Forestry Trunk Road, a name still used for large portions of the route that has switches between Hwy 40, Hwy 734, and the former Hwy 940. The Kananaskis Trail (through Kananaskis Country) and Big Horn Highway (Hinton-Grande Cache-Grande Prairie) sections of Hwy 40 are the two main portions that do not go under the name of the Forestry Trunk Road. Another possibility is merging everything under Alberta Highway 40 as in the very long term, the entire corridor, except the former Hwy 734 between Muskeg River and Hwy 43, would become Hwy 40. • I support a merge, question is the destination title. Leaning towards as FTR as merging it all under Hwy 40 is possibly WP:BALL. -- Acefitt 23:29, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
• Oppose. While FTR is coincident with Hwys 734 and 40 in numerous segments, it is not between Highway 47 and Hinton, and again from Muskeg River (east of Grande Cache) to Hwy 43 (near DeBolt east of Grande Prairie). Past discussions at Talk:Alberta Highway 734 shed some light on this. Admittedly I never got around to the article fix in the last thread there. WP:NOTPAPER also applies. IMHO there should be a separate article for historical FTR route, and the articles for Hwys 40 and 734 would serve as child articles. The merge of FTR with 734 occurred just before I registered. • Fair enough. Maybe leave Alberta Highway 40 and Alberta Highway 734 separate, but move the contents of Alberta Highway 734 to Forestry Trunk Road as Hwy 734 is the designation for the provincially maintained sections? MuzikMachine (talk) 23:35, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
• I see Forestry Trunk Road redirects to Alberta Highway 734. At this point all that remains of FTR is the brief segment northwest of Cochrane and the segment between Crowsnest Pass and Kananaskis Country. The segment that is now Highway 734 is no longer officially named or signed as FTR. I wonder if the FTR name is even more common than Highway 734 now. Given this and the fact that the historical FTR is much longer than Highway 734, I honestly think there is an argument to support a split into two articles.
