Groningen 1970 edit

I think I added the bit about Ljubojević playing the Alapin at Groningen in 1970. It comes from The Oxford Companion to Chess. Normally I consider that source highly reliable, but when I looked for this game on the free databases http://chessgames.com and http://chesslive.de, I came up empty. I don't see any evidence that Ljubojević ever played the Alapin, and of even greater concern, it doesn't look to me like he even played at Groningen in 1970. Actually, that may have been the European Championship, and perhaps his games were in prelim rounds that aren't in the databases. Any thoughts? Quale 06:11, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to my source, there is such a game, but Ljubojević played it as black ! The source is highly reliable : Encyclopedia of Chess Openings, Volume C, 4th edition, see C20, note 3, page 194. The game given is B. Jacobsen vs Ljubojević, Groningen 1970 (reference to Chess informant Nr 9/177).
The moves are : 1.e4 e5 2.Ne2 Nc6 3.g3 Bc5 4.Bg2 Nf6 5.c3?! d5 6.b4? Bb6 7.ed5 Nd5 8.Ba3 Bg4 9.0-0 Nf4!! 10. gf4 Qd3! 11.Re1 000! Black has the upper hand. Goliadkin 09:58, 30 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
