The name

The article doesn't explain the origin of the name "Ooberman". Is it possible they named it after Nietzsche's "Übermensch", the super-man? Or is there some other explanation? Nyh (talk) 10:57, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

@Nyh According to a 26 June 1999 article in The Scotsman by Andrew Burnet,

Given the pair's academic backgrounds, it's tempting to wonder whether Nietzsche might have had a hand in naming the band. The German philosopher's notorious theory of the abermensch, or superman -towards whom lesser beings must bend their wills - was among Hitler's main inspirations.
Understandably, it's an idea Popplewell is keen to play down. The truth, it turns out, is far stranger. "It was me and Andy drunkenly making up a story about these three burnt-out hippies from the Sixties who were all going to meet in the Nineties at the bottom of a swimming pool in LA," he explains, lucidly. "We gave them three names: the Scuba Man, the Doobie Man and the Ooberman. And the Ooberman was this skinny little weed who was calling himself the Ooberman because he thought it would make him look bigger. We were going to do a thing called the Scuba Party EP, a concept EP about this story ... And there's this little character that we've got on all our records. He's like a little superhero - he's got a bucket on his head and a curtain for a cape and red Y-fronts. Goes without saying, the Y-fronts."

Image:OobermanTheMagicTreehouse.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
