Page size exceeds 32 kB. Methinks we should refactor this page and create new pages for each year. Compare with the MTV Movie Awards and the Academy Awards pages. Isto Ylisirkka 16:55, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Done. I used the MTV Movie Awards page as the basis for the subpages. Now, we now have room for more information for each year's awards (hosts, venues, nominees, etc). And yes, I know there's a lot more work to do in the pages for the individual years, but I'm tapped out for now. Tabercil 19:41, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

v and f?

The abbreviations v and f are not clear to laypeople. What do they mean? Please write them out in full.--206.248.172.247 (talk) 01:09, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

  • V and F stand for Video and Film. Your point is a good one, especially since AVN usually spells it out. • Gene93k (talk) 04:11, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Criticism

I moved the criticism paragraph from the lead to a new section I've titled "Review and reception" so that all notable opinions about the awards can be collected. I've also added some sourced historical information for the sake of context regarding the awards. In short, they started out as a small part of a major, mainstream trade show and then grew large enough to warrant their own event and separate venue. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... Contentious material about living persons (or in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced – whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable – should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion

Any more questions, Scalhotrod? Guy1890? Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 02:42, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Mr. Wolfowitz, I understand that for quite some time you've been trying to hide behind whatever your own extremely-strict interpretation of Wikipedia BLP policy is to try & justify just about whatever you want to do to certain Wikipedia articles that you'd like to, but that's really not the way that things are actually supposed to work around here. Removing material that can very easily be sourced by clicking on a Wiki-link (or any other kind of link...like an external link) & forking citations over is intentionally disruptive editing at best. I'm not for leaving unsourced material in Wikipedia articles from now until the end of time, but there isn't a "deadline" on Wikipedia. How about trying to actually help out some articles by easily finding some inline citations for them? If you don't want to go "above & beyond", then fine...but not using what's obviously staring you in the face doesn't help anything out here on Wikipedia. Guy1890 (talk) 02:53, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
How wikipedia works, Guy, is that Wikipedia:BLPSOURCES is non-negotiable. If you want to change the policy you are on the wrong page. If you want to claim BLP enforcement is disruptive the BLP noticeboard is the best place to go and you can explain there why porn articles dont need inline citations to mention living people. The deadline for living people is today, we cant afford to fail or listen to editor's excuses as to why some articles such as porn articles dont need to be BLP compliant. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 03:04, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
When are you going to understand that refusing to discuss issues on Wikipedia talk pages and merely trying to point to other noticeboards isn't actually the way that things work here on Wikipedia "SqueakBox"?
"and you can explain there why porn articles dont need inline citations to mention living people." When did I ever say that? Oh yea, it was never. Guy1890 (talk) 03:20, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
When are you going to understand, Guy, that how we do things round here is that we remove the names of ALL likely living people who have not been reliably sourced per Wikipedia:BLPSOURCES without any discussion whatsoever. The community as a whole has made abundantly clear that the consensus is that this is how we do things and if you want to change that consensus this talk page isnt the place to do it, really it isnt! On the other hand if you agree that all living people require inline citations to remain in any porn article then we are already in agreement! ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 03:36, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Dubious source

This source to me seems completely inadequate to reliably source living people, there are perhaps links on this page to pages where this info can be sourced but that means for instance sourcing all 1986 people with this ref and unless someone is willing to do this in the next couple of days I will remove allt eh red linked likely living people mentioned here. Okay? ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 14:49, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Not OK, you're opinion and "plan" are full of speculation and assumption. If the website for the Academy Awards (Oscars) can be used as a source for past award winners, the AVN website can certainly be used to reference its awards. How about being constructive and adding citations for each year like I've just done for 1984? By the way, before you remove any red links, please make sure that you do a thorough search for that person. A simple misspelling causes a red link too. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 16:46, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
WP:BLP doesnt require I do any of the things you ask me to, indeed it doesnt even require me to discuss the issue but I am willing to do the latter. I suggest you do it for all the years asap but if you disagre with the need to source you should post at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard to get some further opinions. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 16:49, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
You will not remove anything from this article here that can easily be reliably-sourced by referring to the two websites originally mentioned in this thread here. Right now, all a user has to do to see a list of winners from the first website is to click on the year that they want to see. If you or someone else would like to improve the sourcing of this article here, then have at it, but removing information from a Wikipedia article when it can be obviously & easily sourced is completely inappropriate, period. No one needs to take a simple issue like this anywhere else. Guy1890 (talk) 21:44, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Squeak, I don't know what exactly you're quoting in BLP, but WP:BRD is the methodology that Wikipedia suggests and that includes discussion. --Scalhotrod - Just your average banjo playing, drag racing, cowboy... (talk) 21:52, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Guy, you arent in a position to tell me not to remove BLP violations from this article. If you fail to respect any deletions of unsourced material of likely living people its you who will have to take responsibility for re-instating something about a living person that isnt reliable sourced for verification with an inline citation and I can tell you, amigo, that the community will not take kindly to such behaviour so I do suggest you get busy reliably sourcing as any reliably sourced material can of course be included and that is the only way mention of living people can remain in this article long term♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 02:58, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Yea, "get busy"...because this is apparently now "SqueakBoxapeida"...not. You simply cannot show up late to an established article like this & delete large amounts of valid material at will, period. Guy1890 (talk) 03:20, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Are you telling me I am not allowed to enforce BLP on the porn articles? As you arent the arbcom I will take that with a pinch of salt, I and any other editor is empowered to remove any and all BLP violations, you are then empowered to replace the names with a reliable source but not otherwise. If you think I am on a soap box go to the BLP noticeboard and complain or appeal to Jimbo Wales but I dont think you will find the community backs you in what you are saying, which is basically that I or any other editor who hasnt been workignon the porn project for ages should back off and go and enforce BLP in some other area that isnt porn. Some hope. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 03:29, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
"If you think I am on a soap box go to the BLP noticeboard and complain or appeal to Jimbo Wales" I'm really curious as to why you think that if someone disagrees with your own interpretation of Wikipedia guidelines that they must stop immediately talking to you about that & go somewhere else? Really, where did you ever get the idea that's how Wikipedia works? No one is telling anyone to "back off". What we're asking you to do is realize that this is a long-term project...you need to slow down. Nobody died & left you in charge of the non-existent "Wikipedia BLP Police".
