Churchill and Protectionism

edit

I've removed a claim that Churchill was a "protectionist" Chancellor in 1924-9. Baldwin promised tariffs in the Dec 1923 election, but not in 1924-9. Churchill was a free trader and had defected from the Tories to the Liberals in 1904 on that issue. Protectionism was then brought in by the Ottawa Agreements of the early 1930s - Churchill was no longer a member of the government by then. I think we need a bit more detail on exactly which of Churchill's trade policies AV Alexander opposed, and why. Paulturtle (talk) 17:46, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
