Talk:7th Military Division (Vichy France)

Lead sentence, and designation of Armistice Army edit

IP 2001 altered the lead in this edit:

The 7th Military Division (French: 7ème Division Militaire) was a regional army division of the Armistice Army, the Vichy France military permitted under the Armistice of 22 June 1940 after the defeat of France.

but was reverted. Graham87, what was your objection to the IP's change? I think it's an improvement as a more neutral description of what the Armistice Army actually was. It echoes the lead of the article Armistice Army. If you wanted to make clear Vichy's status as a client state (not 'puppet state', according to most historians) in the lead, we could accommodate both. How about:

The 7th Military Division (French: 7ème Division Militaire) was a regional army division of the Armistice Army, the military force permitted Vichy France by the terms of the Armistice of 22 June 1940 signed with Germany, after their invasion and occupation of France. Vichy became a client state of Germany for the remainder of World War II.

or something like that. Any thoughts? Mathglot (talk) 06:49, 13 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

The IP range that made that edit belongs to an extreme right-wing pro-Trump vandal. However since their edit here seems to be OK, I've self-reverted back to it. Graham87 07:19, 13 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
