Talk:2020 League of Legends World Championship

Would it make sense to change the Group Tables to a more traditional Home/Away (Red/Blue) Format? I can make it scriptable if it makes things easier. I know I look for this in the results, would be more informative than just the mirror images of the results on each side of the current tables. Could also do something with the time of the match as a link to the VOD. I want to make sure this would be accepted and appreciated before I do any edits on your page

I would recommend editors use Module:Sports table/WL as it is easier to navigate and edit than Wikitables, although the former has its limitations visually. I don't agree with the proposal to adopt the Red/Blue format because the main event features a double round robin, so you can't restrict it to two colours when there are three possible outcomes (2–0, 1–1, 0–2). Remember that Wikipedia at its core is an online encyclopedia, not an online resource or navigational site for things like VOD links (that's what the LoL Esports website is for). Generally external links are kept to a minimum and only used to link official websites, but as long as the website isn't blacklisted or spam, there can always be an argument for its inclusion. Thanks for the info ✉. I think there is a misunderstanding about Red/Blue. Each square in the table is a match. Because it is double round robin, each team plays the other on both blue and red sides. This way, you can see who won on each side, as opposed to an aggregate of 2-0,1-1,0-2, as that duplicates info essentially. Using the Group A Standings, Suning played G2 twice. Both teams won while playing on the Blue side, you can show it as 1-1 in A2 and B1 (in excel notation) of the table, or you can show that Suning beat G2 while they were blue (B1) and that G2 beat Suning while they were blue (A2). Each match is a binary win or lose, with only 2 outcomes. VOD links were there as an idea to link to the official LoL website for the match, but not necessary. Module:Sports table/WL was the initial thought, but would need a little modification to make it fit this format in the future. The main point is that the new table gives more information in the same format than the original table, as it tells the reader if one color was more dominate for whatever reason, or shows how quick the match was (or could be gold), as a metric of how the match went, instead of just Suning was 1-1 vs G2, etc... Also, many pages link to official reports of the matches. Look at FIFA or UEFA matches, there is always a link to the match report as a reference, I do not see how VOD would be different as it acts as the official report to the match. Use of N/A in the ranking table

@SpyroeBM: I don't know which articles you are referring to when you say "previous Worlds articles", but the reason why adding "N/A" to every blank space in a table is a bad idea is that the scores are harder to see. Doing so negatively affects visibility, especially so for those who can't see very well, because the scores are surrounded by a bunch of N/As. I previously added "0" to every blank space in Pacific Championship Series#Number of top four finishes before realising I was making it harder for readers to clearly see which teams had top finishes as opposed to just leaving the spaces blank. However, this is a matter of opinion, whether editors prefer all information to be clearly stated or visual clarity at the cost of ambiguity. CentreLeftRight ✉ 20:08, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
