Title

User:203.13.166.18 your proposal of Delhi Riots is not acceptable since 1. This is only happening in NE delhi, 2. there are many many riots over the years in Delhi. We will need to add year in that case. Currently, the media and news are using NE Delhi riots/ NE Delhi clashes/ NE Delhi violence. so we can drop the year. --⋙–DBigXray 14:43, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Background

DBigXray The background need corrections. It was not about Shaheen Bagh, but new protests started 2 days ago, sit-in protest at Jaffrabad Metro Station/Chandbagh/Maujpur. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 So need immediate correction or else its sending a wrong message. Second, cops helping the pro-CAA rioters for stone pelting 6 and brought trucks of stones at the site for starting riots 7 Dey subrata (talk) 14:45, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Complaints

User:Coffeeandcrumbs, In the Indian legal system, Complaint is the first step. As you can see in the inline citation, it notes that 2 complaints were filed. It means that Police has been informed about the incident and a formal police case has been asked to be initiated. Police will then initiate the police case by filing an FIR (report), do the investigation, then file chargesheet and the case will goto court. Hope this helps. I have already clarified this and removed the clarify tag, let me know if you still have questions. --⋙–DBigXray 19:20, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

DBigXray, thanks. I knew it must have been a common term for Indians. I just wanted a little clarification which you have now provided in the article. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 19:22, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Many Muslim leaders like owasi have made statements like "1 crore will be ruling 15 crore " This is not a mob reaction but a pre planned event by politicians . As an eye witness they have stored guns swords stones for this purpose. When police fires tear gass balls people cover them with buckets of cold water . From mosques one could observe their respectables asking people to go and fight for God . 103.211.16.206 (talk) 06:41, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Anti CAA riots and Links to Radical Islamic outfits

Many intelligence reports and arrests by police shows that these Anti-CAA protests were supported by radical Islamic outfits like PFI. A lot of provocative speech and fake news by muslim leaders, actors and artists lead to rise in violence across protest sites in India. In Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Islamic outfits threaten to close down the state functioning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sshivamsngh (talkcontribs) 07:31, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

On contrary on what is written this is not a communal riot as Muslims are not the only people affected. Even hindus have been attacked, killed and affected. Furthermore inspite of provocative statement from kapil mishra, it was the Anti- CAA protestors who started the violence by pelting stones on the people who were supporting the act. A 33-year old Muslim man identified as Shahrukh after he confronted an unarmed Delhi Police officer, and shot indiscriminately at people on the other side of the road. Seven people, including a Head Constable of the police died due to the anti-CAA riots. Initially, this man was falsely claimed to be part of the pro-CAA groups. He fired around eight rounds. Due to anti-CAA mobs holding orange plastic crates, and behind him many were seen to wear skull caps. [1] Datta (talk) 16:58, 26 February 2020 (UTC)

Role of Tahir Hussain

Role of AAP councilor Tahir Hussain is completely ignored.

Author totally ignore the role of Tahir Hussain(AAP councilor). His home was used to throw stone. chemicals, petrol bombs. Numerous media channels showed that the rooftop of his house was full of stones, petrol bombs and other dangerous chemicals. His goons killed IB officer Ankit Sharma and dumped his body in a drain. There are so many videos which showed that the councilor himself running with stick with other Muslim mobs on the rooftop. Authors intentionally ignoring the facts to present an anti-Hindu image which is totally untrue and unacceptable according to Wikipedia standard. Whatever mentioned in page is half true and totally one-sided in nature. Authors are trying to present a total Anti-Hindu typed of theory by mentioning jai Sree Ram and har har mahadev Slogan. They didn't mention other side of rioted mentioned allah hu akbar slogan and burnt shops houses.

Requesting authors to consider both side and present a true facts otherwise we are going to sue them for spreading false ONE SIDED STORY.

Man who shot at police

Need to add a paragraph on this. [23] [24] [25] [26]Sarvatra (talk, contribs) 21:24, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

In section "Incidents on 24 February" the line Ratan Lal had received head injuries from a stone thrown at him in Gokulpuri. was initial report. But per autopsy report, Constable Ratan Lal died of a bullet injury.[27]Sarvatra (talk, contribs) 21:24, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Sarvatra I have included the autopsy report. No RS says the man named Sharukh had killed the cop, so it would be wrong to say that in the article.
ABP says the pistol holding man was in Jafrabad, while Lal died in Gokulpuri. So clearly they are separate incidents.--⋙–DBigXray 21:46, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
Yeah those two were separate things, I should have written them in different sections. —Sarvatra (talk, contribs) 21:49, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
Sarvatra, another point is wP:DUE. According to doctors treating the injured more than half were bullet wounds. So clearly there are more than one man shooting around. It is obvious why Media houses are putting too much spotlight on one Muslim guy, I am sure he would have been totally ignored had he not been Muslim. In anycase I am trying to say that the fact that a few media houses are giving him a disproportionate amount of coverage, does not mean Wikipedia must do the same. You can refer to international media and how they are covering the incident. ⋙–DBigXray 21:54, 25 February 2020 (UTC)
Yes, I didn't mean it at all that the arrested man shot the police constable. Like I said, I should have written both the things in different sections, didn't do so in hurry. —Sarvatra (talk, contribs) 22:08, 25 February 2020 (UTC)

Remove bias and instead mention names of all the dead, the circumstances and all the allegations

Wikipedia editors or even news reporters are no judges that you can affix blame or decide who the perpetrators were. All of the below need to be edited or removed: 1. "in which 27 people, mostly Muslim" : No news media has cited casualty figures by religion. One ToI article listed below has a 50:50 ratio. This is a factually incorrect statement. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/14-more-confirmed-deaths-take-toll-to-27-gunshot-wounds-killed-at-least-12/articleshow/74326586.cms

2. "when a BJP leader and former legislator Kapil Mishra issued a three day ultimatum to the Delhi Police[11] to clear the roads being occupied by the protestors failing which he stated that he would forcefully end the protests.[12] Following his comments, multiple clashes began occurring across North East Delhi from the next day" : There are now multiple news reports on pre planning to coincide with Donald trump's visit. There are allegations on AAP councillor Taher Hussain. On what basis has this blanket statement been made?

3. Lead Figures mentions names of 4 BJP leaders basis court discussion but has no details of actual perpetrators or of those against whom FIR have been lodged. This needs to be corrected.

I'll add more. Piyushtariyal (talk) 05:54, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

@Piyushtariyal: Thank you for adding all these. But I would suggest you to discuss individual issue in a different section here on the talk page. (Religious) Demographics of those killed

Following from a section above about the casualty list - since this riots supposedly also have a lot to do with religious orientation, the religious demographics of those killed should be mentioned in the article and further as part of the CAA casualty list over on the main article for this CAA protests - "Names of 19 People Killed in Delhi Riots Confirmed (The Wire)", Delhi violence | Death toll rises to 27 (The Hindu). DTM (talk) 05:59, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Sarvatra and DBigXray Apologies, if it caused a problem. I had replaced the archive bot to Lowercase Sigmabot and changed the archive time from 7 days to 2 days [31]. ClueBot hadn't archived yet so I figured out it might be OK to change the bot and probably the change in bot (diff) might trigger the first archiving sooner. I had also replaced {{Archives|bot=ClueBot III|age=7}} as it is redundant if there is a {{Talk header}}--DreamLinker (talk) 17:19, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
The bot takes around 24 hours after the bot scripts are added, for both. so this flip flop has only increased the delay. The archive duration can be increased once the page size becomes manageable. till then, I would suggest not to change the parameters. Cluebot adds an archive index, hence it was preferred. ⋙–DBigXray 17:42, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

Edit rquired in Timeline and Incitement

In both the sections there is a mention of protests starting some time after Kapil Mishra's speech. Source 37, clearly states that the clashes were a result of pro-CAA protesters throwing stones at anti-CAA protesters.

Please edit "Within a few hours of Kapil Mishra's rally, violent clashes started between the supporters and the people against CAA." in Incitement and "Within hours of his speech clashes broke out between the anti-CAA and pro-CAA demonstrators in Maujpur, Karawal Nagar, Maujpur Chowk, Babarpur and Chand Bagh." under Timeline/23rd Feb

to

Within a few hours of Kapil Mishra's rally, violent clashes started between the supporters and the people against CAA after a group of anti-CAA protesters reportedly hurled stones at a pro-CAA gathering at Maujpur Chowk and near a temple.

Within hours of his speech clashes broke out between the anti-CAA and pro-CAA demonstrators in Maujpur, Karawal Nagar, Maujpur Chowk, Babarpur and Chand Bagh after a group of anti-CAA protesters reportedly hurled stones at a pro-CAA gathering at Maujpur Chowk and near a temple.

respectively.

This pertinent fact which is backed by a source already used in the page shouldn't be hidden and must be mentioned in the article as it gives context to the following clashes.

The source clearly mentions that protestors hurled stones at a pro-CAA gathering. In the context of the source the term protestors was used to describe anti-CAA agitators.

"February 22 (10:30 pm): Several protesters, including women, had gathered in large numbers and occupied a portion of the road near Jaffarabad Metro station since Saturday. A call was given by Bhim Army for a nationwide bandh. Protesters said they would go on a march from Chand Bagh to Raj Ghat.

February 23 (9 am): Senior officers ask protesters to vacate the area as it disrupted traffic in the area. No permission to march to Raj Ghat, Delhi Police tells protesters."

"February 23 (3:45- 4 pm): Protesters from Babarpur (shamshan wali gali) hurl stones at pro-CAA gathering at Maujpur Chowk and near a temple" A14i12 (talk) 11:18, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

How is it my personal analysis when the source clearly supports my statement? Please explain why this source is not being taken into consideration? According to the source(which has been cited elsewhere on the page) the chronology was as follows:

February 23 (3:45- 4 pm): Protesters from Babarpur (shamshan wali gali) hurl stones at pro-CAA gathering at Maujpur Chowk and near a temple

February 23 (4-5 pm): Clashes breaks out in Maujpur, Karawal Nagar, Maujpur Chowk, Babarpur and Chand Bagh. Police resort to lathicharge and fire tear gas shells. Paramilitary forces roped in

This clearly supports my edit. If you feel otherwise, Add a line mentioning that the stone throwing incident preceded the clashes. You cannot just filter what should be on the page on the basis of your bias and opinions.

A14i12, where does it say Anti CAA protestor or anything like that ? ⋙–DBigXray 12:20, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

@DBigXray Please read the source, the context is clear as day light. This is the statement preceeding 23rd Feb events: "February 22 (10:30 pm): Several protesters, including women, had gathered in large numbers and occupied a portion of the road near Jaffarabad Metro station since Saturday. A call was given by Bhim Army for a nationwide bandh. Protesters said they would go on a march from Chand Bagh to Raj Ghat." Anyone with an iota of knowledge over the subject knows that these protesters were anti-caa because they were the one who occupied Jaffarabad Metro.[1] Please use logic to justify the edits and not your opinion and bias. A14i12 (talk) 12:29, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

A14i12, You will have to propose a draft based on what the source says. (and not your feelings or personal logic or bias). I invite you to read WP:OR. ⋙–DBigXray 12:32, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

This is a perfectly reasonable change:

23 February On 23 February Kapil Mishra, along with his supporters, reached the protest site at Jaffarabad and delivered a provocative speech. Some time later, protesters reportedly hurled stones at the pro-CAA gathering at Maujpur Chowk and near a temple[1]. Within hours of the speech, several reports of clashes between the anti-CAA and pro-CAA demonstrators in Maujpur, Karawal Nagar, Maujpur Chowk, Babarpur and Chand Bagh emerged.[22][35] Police used lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the crowd and to take situation in control.

Change Title to "Controversy by Congress on Transfer of Justice S. Muralidhar"

The transfer of the Delhi High Court judge S. Muralidhar who presided over the bench, hearing the plea to Punjab and Haryana High Court sparked a new controversy after the allegations made by the Congress Party[1] that he was transferred because on 26th February he condemned the Delhi Police for its failure in controlling the riots or filing cases against BJP leader for hate speech.

While pronouncing his judgement on a case on 26th February, Justice S. Muralidhar had said, ″That was my last judicial act as a judge of this court″.[2] Later on, it was also confirmed by the official sources that this was a routine transfer and was recommended by The Supreme Court Collegium in a meeting which was held on 12th February, 2020.[3] In addition to this the Law Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad also stated that the transfer was taken place after taking the consent of the judge.[4]

However, this controversy raised by congress was already reported by several media groups that led to increase the distrust amongst the Anti-CAA protesters.

Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader allowed his 4 storey residence to be used by muslim rioteers to hurl petrol bombs at hindu colonies. The Delhi Police has lodged an FIR on the basis of a complaint filed by the family of the IB staffer alleging that Tahir is responsible for his murder. . Autopsy report has revealed the IB staffer was stabbed multiple times before he died.

When India Today visited the building located in Khajuri Khas area of North East Delhi, which reportedly is AAP's Tahir area, sacks of stones and bricks, petrol bombs and acid were kept on the terrace.

However, many videos have surfaced in which the building can be seen being used by the rioters. When India Today spoke to the locals, they confirmed that Tahir has been seen in the building.

Tahir Hussain was then suspended by AAP.

1)Available video clip of Tahir Hussain directing rioters and killing IB agent is completely ignored here

2) Rationale behind the violence exactly at the time of Trump visit to get attention of international media is not been talked upon

3) The timing is even more important because majority of police were deployed elsewhere due to Trump visit. The areas in question has very less police presence.

4) Immediate involvement of NT, Imran Khan etc. shows a well planned attack

This article violates neutral point of view

Some highly baised people are editing this article. This article is selective and so is misleading.

Mind you not suggesting that Hindu elements are not involved, but to show unfairness and unequality resulting in biasness in the article.

1. While Hindu slogans are prominantly mentioned nowhere are the Islamic slogans raised in riots

Please see "...On Tuesday, rioters from both the communities were seen moving around with swords, lathis, stones completely unchecked. The frenzied mobs chanting incendiary slogans — — Jai Shri Ram and Nara-e-tadbeer Allah hu Akbar — hurled stones, petrol bombs at each other..."

https://www.asianage.com/india/all-india/260220/delhi-burns-during-trump-visit-death-toll-rises-to-13.html

Titled as the first reported death "He recalled hearing chants of “Allah Hu Akbar” as the mob came closer. He fell unconscious after he was hit on the head with sticks. “I think papa was still breathing at the time. They hit him everywhere, on his face, his head,”"

https://scroll.in/article/954574/divided-city-how-barricades-came-up-overnight-between-hindu-and-muslim-neighbourhoods-in-delhi

3. While photo of Kapil Mishra and an quote of a victim's father blaming him is mentioned, nowhere is photo of the other alleged hate speech givers, and quotes blaming Tahir Hussain

Please see "...Ankit's father, Ravinder Sharma, ...accused supporters of an Aam Aadmi Party leader, Tahir Hussain, of attacking Ankit and killing him...

"Get Hold of him (AAP leader). He is responsible for the deaths and he is on the run. Police should get hold of him,"..." https://www.ndtv.com/delhi-news/family-of-intel-employee-ankit-sharma-killed-in-delhi-clashes-dont-worry-about-money-he-said-2186159

4. Lead figures mentions Kapil Mishra... on allegation of hate speech but fails to mention Tahir Hussain etc. who took part in the riots. A section on Tahir Hussain was added too late only when became impossible to hide due FIRs and AAP membership suspension.

5. Although it mentions Hindu victims, yet such names makes this article kind of oxymoron, you should remove them, then "your" article would be much more consistent, no hate speeches by muslims, no lslamic slogans, no attacks on journalists, no mention of Tahir Hussain till can be, no Hindu victims, no property loss to Hindus.

6. Shahrukh Khan the shooter, was defended here by saying he did not kill anyone just fired eight shots while standing right in front of a policeman. Very nice.

7. Attack on Masjids are mentioned and should be mentioned when reported by media. Yet to show selectiveness I remind some users here that they not only turned blind but agrued against including an attack on Hindu temple by anti-CAA protesters on The Citizenship Amendment Act protest page at its talkpage. Very nice

8. Someone wrote "Several journalists reporting on the riots stated that they had been threatened by pro-CAA mobs" and later names of Hindu groups are explicitly mentioned, wherease attacks by anti-CAA protesters is missing in the beginning as well as in details.

"Mere saat jo tha, woh chala gaya [The guy, who was with me, has died],” Mr. Napa said with a sense of loss. The reporter claimed that he was shot by anti-CAA protesters. "

https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Delhi/first-came-petrol-bomb-stones-then-they-shot-at-me-reporter/article30926971.ece

"Urjita said she and Fatima — whom she was with — constantly exchanged names depending on the crowd."

https://theprint.in/opinion/why-delhi-riots-are-different-what-theprints-13-reporters-photojournalists-saw-on-ground/371981/

Such unfair and baised editing amounts to a missuse of the Wikipedia for propaganda.

Very unfortunate that there are people who make such selective edits and then when it suits there argument they write somewhere "... Don't you feel your single line will be read by lakhs of people here, and narratives and perception will be created FROM it..."

Care about narratives and perceptions, quoting of WP policies and block threats only when the reality goes againts there biases and prejudices.

As an IP user I tried to reason with some of them at The Citizenship Amendment Act protest talkpage, but those with prejudices and biases, and bent on propaganda, are blind to reason and when they lose argument, they just withdraw as an IP user can't do much on protected pages.

Again mind you that not suggesting that Hindu elements not involved but to show unfairness and unequality resulting in biasness in the article

Tell the truth as it is, whole and complete truth. Treat all with equality and fairness, no matter what you believe and know, no matter how much you are prejudiced and baised against anyone.2405:204:3323:9B54:74E0:D3F4:A8D0:A375 (talk) 08:06, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

If 95 citations can be added about Kapil Mishra's 'prominent' role in incitement (and the others mentioned by Justice Muralidhar in the Delhi High Court) and five citations for other folks, then if the '95 percent' is given 'primacy' or 'prominence,' then it's not violative of 'neutral point of view.' It's merely the preponderance of evidence; or, just plain common sense. This is obvious but I felt this needed to said here. Sachi Mohanty 08:49, 28 February 2020 (UTC) Sachi bbsr (talk)

Biased, incomplete and misleading information is being updated

The article seems to be biased and looks like an attempt to target a specific political party and the members associated with it and religion. Also, edits from volunteer contributors like S. M. Nazmus Shakib and DBigXray does not seems to be as per the Neutral point of view it may be due to they themself belongs to the radical Islamic community. It is really surprising to see that both the editors left an almost similar message on my talk with a warning to block/ban for the well-cited contents which were added by me in the article.

Update:
It is interesting to see that @DBigXray: has left a message on my talk page which mentions "Do not edit war even if you believe you are right" where he himself seems to be under the radar of edit war which can be seen clearly on talk page of this article. The infobox targeted only the members of a specific party despite the fact the High court of India issued notice against the several other politicians like Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Owaisi and another politician, Tahir Hussain who is on the run after being caught redhanded and booked for IB official killing and in the involvement of Delhi riots as per the TOI report published under the title Tahir Hussain, AAP councillor booked for IB officer's murder during Delhi violence. — Sanskari Hangout 10:15, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

I agree. The article as it is has a very prominent pro-New Delhi bias and many sections appear written by Unionists or even members of the Hindi Parivar. This bias should be redressed. I support the inclusion of a section on New Delhi's long-term racist oppression of Non-Hindi peoples and discriminatory taxation of Non-Hindi member-states, in order to provide a proper 'big picture' perspective. The Delhi riots are merely part of large-scale hatred and violence against non-Hindi peoples. For example, the demolition of the Vidyasagar statue in West Bengal during the recent anti-Bengali riots a few months ago orchestrated by Hindi Nationalists should also be mentioned. A proper title could be "New Delhi's State Sponsored Terrorism against Non-Hindi Peoples". WashingtonPrime (talk) 05:25, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

Why you have not mentioned this dog named tahir hussain in your article? TheIndianreality (talk) 08:22, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Who paid you to publish this half or one sided story?

Which party paid you for this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheIndianreality (talkcontribs) 08:23, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Mostly hindu are killed by muslim protesters

This is reality TheIndianreality (talk) 08:25, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

  • You could not find a single WP:Reliable Source to show that Mostly Hindu are killed. But you seem to be unaware of what the sources are saying. here is a quote.
  • "Delhi's Muslims pray under armed guard after week of riots". The Guardian. 28 February 2020. Retrieved 29 February 2020. They killed or burned alive Muslims who could not escape and the victims were largely unprotected by the police. At least 37 people, almost all Muslims, were killed and many others beaten half to death. %% ⋙–DBigXray 13:06, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Requesting lock down on article.

I kept myself away from this article this time as I knew I might get wrong in many places. But just some minutes ago a well known twitter handle with more than 262K followers has tried to direct crowd towards this article. As we can see wikipedia runs on reliable sources and authentic logics only and I can see editors like Kautilya3 have done amazing job in maintainign this article.

But in a few days vandalism is expecting on this article. So a lockdown is requested. Talk page is open for discussion. Requesting DBigXray Kautilya3 to make a lockdown as vandalism is expected after such appeal. Edward Zigma (talk) 10:43, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi Edward, I haven't done much actually (been busy in RL).
But, El_C has been monitoring the page, and any POV attacks will be promptly dealt with. Not to worry. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 10:54, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Kautilya3.@El C: Edward Zigma (talk) 11:03, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Watering down

Waddie96, thanks for your copyediting. But I want to understand why you watered down a key passage to:

The BJP used incendiary slogans such as "shoot the traitors"[a] against the protesters as part of their campaign. BJP leader Kapil Mishra also made hate speeches which India Today attributes to be the cause of the BJP defeat.[1][2]

  1. ^ Desh ki ghaddaron ko, goli maro salon ko (Hindi: देश की ग़द्दारों को, गोली मारो सालों को, Urdu: دیش کی غدداروں کو، گولی مارو سالوں کو)

References

  2. ^ Hate speech cost BJP Delhi elections, people like Kapil Mishra should be removed: Manoj Tiwari, India Today, 23 February 2020.

Kapil Mishra is known to have coined the slogan (which was of course used by other BJP leaders as well). But he was held responsible by the state BJP chief, Manoj Tiwari, not by India Today. Tiwari also called for his removal from the party. Some commentators have said that Mishra turned to more extermism in order to resurrect his falling star within the BJP. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 15:08, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Did not mean to water it down, the English was not clear in the text and what I wrote was how it came across to me. I will correct it now, or you can correct it to how you interpret it. Apologies comrade waddie96 (talk) 15:30, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Corrected please let me know if you are happy with the corrections now. comrade waddie96 (talk) 15:34, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
@Kautilya3: forgot to ping comrade waddie96 (talk) 15:36, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
Yes, it is reasonable now. Thanks very much for all your help! -- Kautilya3 (talk) 15:46, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Spelling question

Forgive my ignorance, but the article has a mix of -ise and -ize spellings (both vandalise and and vandalize, for example). My assumption is that Indian English uses -ise spelling, but I know there are variants of Commonwealth English that don't. Which should it be? Guettarda (talk) 13:41, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Guettarda, Please use "vandalize" "vandalise" is not the right spelling. --⋙–DBigXray 13:53, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
@DBigXray: are American-style -ize spellings normal in Indian English then? Guettarda (talk) 13:55, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
Guettarda Please use UK version -ise as a general rule for Indian articles. With American influence it is possible that you will see ize version in some places, but -ise or the british version is common. Vandalize is a case which is always -ize. Atleast I believe, I have never seen "vandalise" in Indian RS.--⋙–DBigXray 14:00, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
-ize is more standard. It is acceptable in British/US/Indian English. There is no fixed usage afaik. --qedk (t c) 14:17, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
"ize" is standard in American English and (I believe) Canadian English. It's a non-standard variant in British English and other non-Americanised varieties of English, much like "grey" is a non-standard variant in American English. But given that this article uses both -ise and -ize, I am curious about the standard in Indian English. Guettarda (talk) 14:33, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Guettarda, QEDK lets focus on the job at hand. I believe on this article the only concern is vandalize vs vandalise. Am I right ? I propose we use vandalize. Does anyone object to this ? what are the other words in this article that need to be discussed ? ⋙–DBigXray 14:40, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what convention is used as long as it remains consistent in this article. --qedk (t c) 14:52, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
My understanding is that Indian English has traditionally used Chambers's spelling, i.e. -ise endings, not Oxford, i.e. -ize. Similarly, it does not use Oxford commas. That in theory is the standard. The standardization was moving apace in the 70s and 80s, but a combination of the internet (including Wikipedia), and Indians going to America for studying, killed it. Sidney Greenbaum had commented somewhere that if Indians demonstrated confidence in using their language and pursued some form of codification, grammars and dictionaries, it might some day in the future become a regional variety like Caribbean, South African, even Australian English. Whether that will happen now is not clear. But the existing standards in all Englishes are being ruffled by the internet. So its not just Indian English. Anyway, on Wikipedia South Asian English, including Indian, has -ise endings. That is the reason why the Indus Valley Civilisation has remained in that spelling despite daily attempts to change it. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:01, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
I did a quick run through with Grammarly (set to BE) and found no glaring misspellings. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 15:16, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
Fowler&fowler, much appreciated. That's a good news.--⋙–DBigXray 15:50, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

I strongly oppose to the contents in the article. Why only hindus are held responsible for the riots. Kindly take a note of the facts otherwise I will be bound to file a case against the website ans author of the article. Aldarun23 (talk) 14:53, 1 March 2020 (UTC)

Archive settings

Hi all, the talk page is growing at 400 KB per day. within 3 days it will reach 1.2 MB. Which is why I proposed 24 hrs, archive. A thread that does not get response in 24 hrs will be archived. if anyone wants to continue they can pull it back from archive. This seems as the only way to keep this talk page functional. ⋙–DBigXray 14:10, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

Lead figures names

User:DBigXray With reference to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and 2002 Gujarat Riots articles, is it really necessary to include the "Lead Figures" section in this article? Aswin8 (talk) 13:34, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
The Delhi High Court has asked the Police to file cases against them for hate speech that caused the violence. ⋙–DBigXray 14:24, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
And just like in the above mentioned two articles, can that matter not be mentioned in the main body of the article, rather than in a half-filled section of "Lead Figures"? Aswin8 (talk) 17:33, 26 February 2020 (UTC)
The other articles are different from this one. Here a protest was going on. And a leader brought his supporters to get engaged. Secondly, the other names mentioned who delivred hate speech which is now being asked by court to take actions. So appropriate enough to put it. Dey subrata (talk) 03:04, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
Aswin8, it is mentioned both in the body as well as infobox. ⋙–DBigXray 07:46, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
  • There is no need to put lead figures names because it looks like a WP:BLPVIO. The page is about riots and you are naming them to be leading riots by using poor and recent media reports. Aman Kumar Goel(Talk) 17:15, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
Aman.kumar.goel There is no such WP:BLPVIO, mention which one and how relevant?? Dey subrata (talk) 17:30, 28 February 2020 (UTC)

Tahir Hussain SESHEW (talk) 09:07, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

The lead figure names are completely made up. You cannot mention names without the court of law’s final decision. Kkartiki18 (talk) 09:25, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Till date lead figure has not been removed and other side has not been added even court gave notice to police for Amanullah khan waris pathan And why sharjeel imam is not added as he also gave inflammatory speech Bhav2916 (talk) 10:55, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

  • I agree that the names on infobox were misleading and were clearly providing false impression of the names as being the organizers of the riots. Removed per consensus above. ML 911 18:46, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Omar Khalid gave a speech about protesting and organising crowd when trump will visit India. The video is viral ,why is he being left out and what about waaris khan speech iy was communal too Devashish sharma101 (talk) 13:33, 2 March 2020 (UTC)
