League table edit

Is there any particular reason why the league table is organized in alphabetical order by city name rather than by the club name? I have always seen league tables ordered alphabetically by club name before a match is played across all leagues plus the German language page organizes it by club name too. If there is not a specific reason for this, I think we should change to follow the same format as we use in the league tables for the other leagues. And stylistically this just looks weird. Thanks. The german league page is ordered by positions from the last year... Kante4 (talk) 14:15, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay cool. That doesn't answer this though... Rupert1904 (talk) 15:13, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have no problem with the current listing, there was never a problem with it. German names are different and i see no reason to change that. Kante4 (talk) 15:21, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Why are German names different? Why should this be organized by city when every other league in the world organizes by club name? Rupert1904 (talk) 15:46, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Because some have "FC, SC, VfL...", at times before/after, not shown while piping and for me it would look strange to have them listed in any other way. It is listed the same way as the "Stadiums/Personnel" section, which is ordered by city. Maybe someone else have their say here in the next days. Kante4 (talk) 16:51, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
That's not specific to Germany though. Take the Italian Serie A clubs for instance; in 2020-21 there will be F.C., Calcio, A.S., S.S.C., A.C., U.C., U.S., S.S. (and I could go on) both before and after and they are still organized alphabetically by club names. Same goes for Spain, England, France, Japan, and on and so on. League Table on Old Pages edit

I was looking at a version of this page from 28 September 2020 and when you go down to the league table, it had the most current scores. This is ridiculous. It gives an inaccurate picture of the page. Look at this nonsense: the page from 1 MARCH 2020: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2020%E2%80%9321_Bundesliga&oldid=943373212

It has the current table standings. The season hadn't even STARTED. Whoever put that automatic table updater in the page needs to SHUT IT DOWN ASAP. It corrupts the page and makes the wiki useless for historical purposes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.221.81 (talk) 03:47, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

That is because the table is in a template and that displays the most current version, whatever date you look at. There is nothing wrong. Kante4 (talk) 07:32, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
It is certainly inaccurate. One thing that is useful about Wikipedia football pages is being able to check the historical tables. If I want to know who was in 5th place at the beginning of March 2016, for instance, I can't because of the ridiculous template. Why can't we get rid of the template and add scores manually as the matches take place? Or why can't the template take a snapshot to be saved in old versions? It is really insane. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.221.81 (talk) 18:37, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
You can always look at an old version at the template itself. Kante4 (talk) 19:17, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dude! Awesome! Thanks for the tip. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.221.81 (talk) 04:18, 6 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
