Missing Information Template

FYROM

I would like to know if it is confirmed that FYROM (the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) is actually going to be after France in the parade of nations. Under the Korean name given, FYROM should instead be placed after Ghana because FYROM in Korean is spelled "구유고슬라비아 마케도니아 공화국." Assuming it is the first letter of FYROM that places it on the list, like in previous olympics where FYROM was ordered as if it started with "F" and not "M", the first character "구" would place it after Ghana which is "가나". Also, I see nothing in the Korean name of FYROM that makes it so that it should be placed with the rest of the countries that start with "ㅍ" in their Korean names anyway. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Boldblazer (talk • contribs) 05:11, 22 January 2018 (UTC)

"The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia"

As per the introduction, we're using the official IOC name for all the countries, as we've done in the past. So, for instance, we have "Islamic Republic of Iran", not simply "Iran", and "People's Republic of China" rather than simply "China." The official IOC name for Macedonia is "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" and that's how they'll be announced during the Parade, so that's what we use. That being said, I'm pretty sure there's no "The" in the official name so that word should probably be removed. I'm not certain though, so I won't remove it myself. Another editor changed it to simply "Republic of Macedonia". I changed it back to "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" as that is the name they will be marching under, but I do not believe the "The" is in the official name so I left it out. @Primefac: Please check article history and the edit war to add Kurdistan to the table. I notice this because the broken syntax puts the article in Category:Pages with script errors but I have no knowledge about the issue. Do you have any idea what the attempted edit is trying to do? I think he's trying to say that Kurdish athletes are participating in the Olympics. However, they were NOT in the parade of nations, at least not under their own flag. Yes, could someone please semi-protest this? Czolgolz (talk) 12:27, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

User blocked. Kurdistan does not have its own NOC, so it will thus not have a country code, and thus will throw an error if an attempt is made to use it. Israel and Macedonia's order

Israel (이스라엘, Iseurael) entered after Italy (이탈리아, Itallia), not the original order after Iran (이란, Iran), in consideration of hostile relations with Iran. Macedonia entered France (프랑스, Peurangseu) under the name of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (구유고슬라비아 마케도니아 공화국, Guyugoseullabia Makedonia Gonghwaguk), in consideration of the Macedonia naming dispute with Greece. Macedonia's order came from the English initials FYROM (피롬, Pirom) of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. -- Sangjinhwa (talk) 02:51, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

Macedonia comes under F, as per the former in the title. Israel entered after Iran in 2014, so I do not see why hostile relations would cause them to enter separately in 2018, when issues existed in 2014 as well. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 18:39, 29 January 2019 (UTC)

Couldn't be, because Korean grammar order would render it as "Iran Islamic Republic" and the alphabetical order would be the same. It can't just be "Iran Islamic Republic" either as that would put them even closer to Israel. (All three words starting with "I" just get transliterated directly into Korean, and the equivalents of syllable-initial r/s/t also happen to be in alphabetical order in Hangul.)
