Effect of Cuba leadership change on outcome of gubernatorial election

Ron DeSantis recently went to Manuel Artime Theater to ask the Trump Justice Department to have former Cuban leader Raul Castro to be indicted for the 1996 Brothers to the Rescue shootdown. However, Raul Castro is an old man (he is age 87) and might die soon, and given that ever-thinning ranks of Bay of Pigs veterans and Trump's lone Cuban-American ally in the US House got from Trump a tempered hardline Cuba policy (not shutting the door to Cuba, but instead toughening Obama's Cuba policy by banning US business with military-controlled Cuban corporations and some restrictions on US tourist travel to Cuba), it is possible that DeSantis' revival of a long-discredited call for Raul Castro to be indicted for the shootdown might end up costing him the Cuban-American vote in Miami and Tampa because no one in Cuban Miami except families of those killed in the 1996 BTTR shootdown has supported such an action (Raul Castro also helped his more charismatic and well-known brother kill his opponents by firing squad, and he was a Marxist long before Fidel declared himself Marxist-Leninist in December 1961). And add to that the most recent FIU poll gauging Cuban-American public opinion regarding US-Cuba relations and no Cuban-American in the Democratic Party would want the feds to put Raul Castro on trial for killing Cuban-American humanitarians who volunteered to join Brothers to the Rescue.Extrapolaris (talk) 15:24, 29 September 2018 (UTC)Vahe Demirjian

Can you read? The link you put? “The Associated Press will not declare winners in the races for Florida governor and Senate until state officials certify the results next week.” So no, there is no “winner” until a race is called, no matter what the votes look like.Trillfendi (talk) 23:24, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

Many races have not been certified but have been "called". Usually when the losing candidate concedes, the certification is moot. However, in Florida, the democratic candidates have either not conceded or withdrew an earlier withdrawal, so waiting for certification is probably a safe practice.

exit polling

Theleekycauldron, briefly looking at the other outlets I could find that conducted exit polls, it seems they use mostly the same dataset (CNN NBC WaPo). It almost all corroborates each other, except the % for black voters in the WaPo is significantly different. There's probably a discrepancy with the black voter dataset, hence where that 18% may be inaccurate I suppose. Curbon7 (talk) 09:42, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
