Talk:2016 murders of Des Moines police officers

Why is so much info included on the killer's background? edit

I tried to delete much of the killer's background info, but Wikipedia won't let me. I don't think someone who murders police officers deserves half of a Wikipedia article to their name, good or bad. We shouldn't care about what this scum bag's daughters think of him, for instance. This article should focus on the officers killed, not the guy who killed them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.217.203.132 (talkcontribs)

shootings of > murders of? edit

Shouldn't this be at 2016 murders of? valereee (talk) 19:45, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Per WP:DEATHS, yes it should be EvergreenFir (talk) 19:51, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Went ahead and did it since we didn't get other commentary. We'll see if anyone objects. valereee (talk) 13:36, 24 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Moved back. I disagree due to the existence of other articles like 2016 shooting of Dallas police officers, 2016 shooting of Baton Rouge police officers, 2022 shooting of Kentucky police officers, etc. Love of Corey (talk) 04:44, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Love of Corey, other stuff exists. The solution is to fix those articles, not to leave this one in the wrong place. Let's discuss. valereee (talk) 11:06, 2 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Love of Corey, so the RfC has been closed, can we continue this discussion here? valereee (talk) 19:44, 16 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 3 July 2022 edit

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Consensus is that mass moving all these without consideration of the specifics of the incidents within seems to be inappropriate. (closed by non-admin page mover)Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 00:09, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

– Per the talk page discussion above, I'm creating an RM discussion to gather a proper community consensus. Love of Corey (talk) 07:51, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose treating these as a group. For some of these, such as 2016 shooting of Dallas police officers, the move wouldn't be accurate because some of them were shot and injured but not killed. There's also guideline info at WP:DEATHS which may help here w/re murder vs. killing. The reason for moving the article here, for instance, is that both officers involved were killed (not simply shot) and there was a conviction for murder. For some of these articles there may also be WP:common name to consider. I don't think we can consider these as a group. We need to discuss each one individually to determine the correct location. valereee (talk) 14:42, 3 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per above commenters. It's unlikely that there is one catch-all, consistent label for all these events. 162 etc. (talk) 04:43, 4 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
