Confirmed for 2011?

edit

I can't even find anything on CONCACAF's site acknowledging this tournament is tentatively scheduled for 2011! If there's no external source confirming its existence, then per WP:CRYSTALBALL this whole article could be AfD'd. Not going there just yet, but we need sources. - Regards, PhilipR (talk) 05:45, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

There is a video listing all of the host stadiums: http://www.goldcup.org/page/GoldCup/Video/FeaturesDetail2/0,,12802~2246130,00.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.181.195.25 (talk) 17:53, 27 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
That's CONCACAF for you. Thousands of out-of-work web designers out there, but nary a one to properly update CONCACAF's site. Maybe the best thing CONCACAF ever did was change their name to "The Football Confederation", but then again, crap by any other name still stinks to high heaven.SWalkerTTU (talk) 04:38, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
That remark was written almost a year ago -- I'm pretty sure CONCACAF's website reflects the fact that the tournament is going on. MrArticleOne (talk) 21:52, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I knew that when I made my comment. Of course, it's not exactly encouraging when the confederation's website doesn't have information about an event that they plan on having that far ahead of time, which is rather reasonable to do considering they hold the tournament every other year. It's not like it's a surprise event. Besides, I was just making a facile joke at CONCACAF's expense, kind of like how Jack Warner makes his living... SWalkerTTU (talk) 02:52, 16 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Host nation

edit

If the Rose Bowl is hosting the final doesn't that mean logically at the very least the US is a host nation? Gateman1997 (talk) 23:32, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Final draw?

edit

Does anyone knows when the final draw of the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 is scheduled? I cannot find the info anywhere but I cannot believe that it's not scheduled yet... ! Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.165.128.188 (talk) 06:53, 21 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

CONCACAF doesn't do a final draw for the Gold Cup. They basically just allocate the teams into groups themselves and announce it. The participating teams supposedly have to approve of the groups as well. There's a reason for it too and it's called Jack Warner's pockets. Sportzfrk99 (talk) 00:27, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I imagine that might be amended in the future, if FIFA can do us a favor and can Jack Warner. I wouldn't hold my breath, however. SWalkerTTU (talk) 04:35, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, the "draw" ended up following the FIFA rankings almost exactly (if you assume Guadeloupe would be ranked last), with the exception of Guatemala and Honduras being flipped. MrArticleOne (talk) 04:55, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tiebreakers

edit

Does anyone know what the first tiebreaker is -- net goals or H2H? --74.192.39.198 (talk) 23:09, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

H2H. Tiebreakers now included in article. Chanheigeorge (talk) 06:26, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Suspension

edit

I think its also important to note that they had eaten contaminated meat and that they had not actually taken "Drugs" and they have been able to re-test. ~~elbigger1~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elbigger1 (talkcontribs) 21:38, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

USA loss

edit

Should we include the fact the USA lost for the first time in the group stage? Intoronto1125TalkContributions 02:29, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

It is notable, but do you really need to rub it in? SWalkerTTU (talk) 04:34, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't mean to rub it in. However it is a historical fact. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 01:40, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Standings tables

edit

Standings tables should not be updated while games are ongoing to reflect goals scored during games. The standings tables only make sense based on final game results. MrArticleOne (talk) 03:27, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree with this too, but I don't think it was updated during games. Correct me if I am wrong. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 04:04, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Group C was updated during the USA - PAN match tonight (UTC-5) SWalkerTTU (talk) 04:33, 12 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
This has been the convention throughout soccer tournaments as long as I've been editing (and yes I know I'm not logged in, but it's been several years) - I am going to revert the edits made at halftime of the MEX-CRC match. 184.0.218.148 (talk) 01:09, 13 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

A note about the team statistics table

edit

Some days ago i added the team statistics table, present in all Gold Gup pages. I used the standard form (See the section "Team statistics" after clicking here). By now I've found a new version. IMHO it is valid as the other (or maybe better) but it is not the standard stats table used in Gold Cup pages (see this as example). This new table is most standard as other tables on this page but... A simple question: what will be the "better" one for the article? My eventual vote is neutral, to avoid conflicts of interest (as wroten above, I added the original table). Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 18:21, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have standardized the team stats table because it is not supposed to resemble a 'rankings' table. So I removed the points column and changed Winner and RUnner up to Final in the Round reached column(Rnd). If Concacaf publishes standings like they did in 2003 then the table can be changed accordingly. Libro0 (talk) 18:02, 24 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jermaine Taylor

edit

According to 2011_CONCACAF_Gold_Cup#Goalscorers, the Jamaican Jermaine Taylor scored an own goal against the USA. When was that? I don't see anywhere where that has been mentioned in the article or in the media. Should we remove it? Group stage matches

edit

I think that if replace matchbox by table in main article, it will not be too long. Also it will avoid duplication because the information in sub-articles is sufficient!

For example, see this section. JackHoang (talk) 08:30, 25 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
