Points: First vs Second leg of season edit

Will the teams keep their points when the 2nd leg starts in Spring 2012? Or will they only keep the points coming from matches against the teams who also make the same group? (if so, wouldn't it be interesting to highlight such points in the table?) Or start with zero points all over? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.118.89.236 (talk) 01:12, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Zenit qualified for the 2012-13 Champions League edit

Zenit has 80 points now. CSKA has 66 with 5 games remaining, Spartak has 65 with 6 games remaining and Dynamo has 63 with 6 games remaining. Those are the only teams that mathematically can beat Zenit in the final standings.

CSKA, Spartak and Dynamo all can come ahead of Zenit only if they win all their remaining games (or, in case of Spartak, win 5 and have 1 draw) and Zenit loses all their remaining games. Another case is Zenit has 1 point and Spartak wins every remaining games, it does not change anything in the possibilities below.

If CSKA wins all their remaining games, it means they'd beat both Spartak and Dynamo. Spartak would be able to get at most 80 points in that case and Dynamo 78. Spartak would be behind Zenit on head-to-head games (Zenit won two so far with one draw, even if Spartak beats them 10-0, Zenit would be ahead on head-to-head points).

If Spartak wins all their remaining games, it means they'd beat both CSKA and Dynamo. CSKA would be able to get at most 78 points in that case and Dynamo 78.

If Dynamo wins all their remaining games, it means they'd beat both Spartak and CSKA. Spartak would be able to get at most 80 points in that case and CSKA 78. Spartak would be behind Zenit on head-to-head (see above).

Therefore Zenit will at the very worst take second place and qualify for some stage of the Champions League.
