Deletion edit

I've nominated this page for deletion, essentially because nothing has changed significantly since the last two times it was deleted when the page contained a high portion of editor derived speculative content and rumours, which is against Wiki policy, specifically WP:CBALL. I personally do not see a good reason to start this page until the 2009 calendar has been confirmed. Any announcements about new for 2009 events can go into the 2008 V8 Supercar season page or other pages like Townsville Street Circuit. Please feel free to disagree. --Falcadore (talk) 02:39, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I note the reference has changed - but there is still not a 2009 season calendar anywhere in that reference. --Falcadore (talk) 07:15, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Changed again, but it's still speculation and rumours. That is not good enough for Wikipedia. A confirmed press release from V8 Supercar is the correct starting point. --Falcadore (talk) 08:19, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I guess I should have said a press release, with the actual calendar in it. As you have not provided sufficient information other than rumours, and a press release saying, "we will have information in September", neither of which I believe is good enough to satisfy criteria for inclusion, I shall forward this to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Look, I know you are a new contributor, but the first source is a fan site, and by its definition does not count as a reliable news source and should not be used for referencing purposes. The V8 Supercar source is much better, but it doesn't actually say anything. Basically all it is saying is 'coming soon'. When there is an official calendar, an actual calendar, not an advertisement for a future to be announced calendar, then that's a really good time to start writing this article, based on a template provided by 2008 V8 Supercar season. And please, use a spell checker before publishing. --Falcadore (talk) 09:09, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Teams and Drivers edit

The teams and drivers section has been removed because none of it was sourced. All drivers must be confirmed individually, and confirmation does not mean a press speculation suggesting, well this driver we think will be moved to another team, it means the team confirming this driver will drive for this team. --Falcadore (talk) 00:31, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I must re-iterate - no speculations. Wikipedia is not a chat forum, or a newspaper. It is an encyclopedia. It is a record of what is, not what might be. Confirmation from official sources. Just because your source is a front line Australian newspaper does not make it anything more than a well-informed guess. Courtney himself says there will be a announcement before Phillip Island - you will have to wait for the announcement. --Falcadore (talk) 01:20, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Again it becomes neccessary to point out that rumours and speculations are unsuitable additions. Any listing must be confirmed and sourced. Also, Jamie Whincup has not yet won the 2009 title, so he does not yet have the #1 champions plate. Just because he is the outstanding favourite does not mean he will win, remember what happened to Whincup at Hamilton? Alex Davison, James Courtney, Steven Johnson are all widely known but not confirmed. Several other drivers mentioned are little more than possibilities. Holden Racing Team do not yet have four franchises, certainly Paul Cruikshank do not yet have two. If you have an official source that says yes instead of maybe, then let's see it. Examples of correct sourcing are available in the Driver and Team Changes section. --Falcadore (talk) 03:05, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
New confirmations - Alex Davison now has been confirmed, refer here so he can be added. --Falcadore (talk) 03:59, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Recent edits edit

Can you please explain why these recent edits are necessary? The existing format has been arrived after years of refinement why change what works perfectly well? --Falcadore (talk) 02:14, 13 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Team Principle and team base are information that should be placed in the pages for the various race teams, as this information is not of direct bearing to a summary of the season's racing. It's about the appropriateness of the information. --Falcadore (talk) 08:10, 13 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Based on 2008 season article? edit

Should this article be given the same the treatment as 2008 V8 Supercar season, and have the info transferred to a new page, 2009 V8 Supercar Championship Series? - KytabuTalk 11:27, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but its still 2008, less than half the series drivers are confirmed, we are getting way ahead of ourselves. --Falcadore (talk) 12:11, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

HRT 4 Cars edit

The recent edit to make HRT 4 cars, the new link does not work, and judiciously uses the word 'believed' which means its speculation and will be removed. Please fix quickly. --Falcadore (talk) 06:04, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jacques Villeneuve in 2009 Season Or Enduros? edit

On 16th January an article about Jacques Villeneuve was put on the V8 supercars website. It says that he would like to at least race at Bathurst, but could also do the whole series. Apparently Paul Morris wants him at Supercheap as well. Should this be put under the "Driver Changes" section of the article?

Article on V8 Website: <http://www.v8supercars.com.au/content/hero_news/january09/villeneuve_confirms_v8_interest/> —Preceding unsigned comment added by V8578 (talkcontribs) 03:49, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not unless the team confirms he has been signed. We could fill a dozen articles with the full gammut of speculations that has appeared this year, recording all the rumours is not necessarily best serving the article long-term. And against WP:CBALL --Falcadore (talk) 04:52, 18 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Understood. I'm fairly new so I haven't read all of the rules just yet. Thanks for your help. V8578 (talk) 01:35, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

2009 teams edit

I've raised an issue over at Talk:HSV Dealer Team#What to do for 2009 that regular contributors to the V8 pages may wish to comment on. --Falcadore (talk) 00:38, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Format change edit

After years of a fine system why are we changing the format? And please enough with the silent treatment, take part. Why do you feel the need to change it? --Falcadore (talk) 22:56, 21 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nissan GT-R Safety Car edit

It was confirmed yesterday (27th Feb) that the Nissan GT-R would become the new safety car for the V8's after Chrysler dropped out at the end of last year. [1]

Should this be listed in the article?

V8578 (talk) 02:13, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

A very brief mention. Of much greater import would be the raft of rule changes during the offseason. --Falcadore (talk) 04:46, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Co-drivers edit

I've started adding confirmed co-drivers with sources, however I don't think we need paragraphs of text describing who is racing with who, so I have just been referencing them drivers next to their names. Birky21 (talk) 09:51, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Because of another editors habit of adding everything that gets rumoured on forums I was hoping to keep a lid on co-drivers at least until the season started, but I guess it was a vain hope. --Falcadore (talk) 19:59, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry mate, I'm happy for them to be removed, however there was a column for co-drivers that was looking very empty so decided to at least fill it a little (but only with confirmed drivers). Birky21 (talk) 11:01, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Andrew Thompson has been confirmed to drive with Tony D'Alberto see here: http://www.v8supercars.com.au/v8data/2009/evnt_277/drventry.asp?ssn=2009&eid=277&ind=M —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.151.244 (talk) 00:00, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Brad Jones and Andrew Jones are confirmed as Brad Jones Racing enduros as well (see link above)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.151.244 (talk) 00:00, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Perth edit

Wanneroo is in Perth. If we are going to start using suburbs, Albert park is in Albert Park, not Melbourne, and Homebush Street Circuit is in Homebush. Personally i'd prefer to keep them Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. Davo499 (talk) 07:56, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's as maybe, but if Wanneroo was not accurate, then Perth, Scotland was not either. Please check you have the correct links when making changes. --Falcadore (talk) 21:05, 18 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Points system edit

Winton is not split 100/200, both races are worth 150 for the win as per here and here. - KytabuTalk 08:59, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The points systems is defined here in an excerpt from the V8 Supercar Operations Manual. VESA themselves have chopped and changed quite a bit since last September, showing a typical lack of, if not conviction, then a lack of knowledge of what they are managing. In any case, that is from V8 Supercar's official document so it should be correct. --Falcadore (talk) 10:15, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Margins edit

Can someone please fix the margins on this page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.210.87 (talk) 00:40, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Fine for me. I'm afraid I'm not sure what the problem is. What exactly is the problem? And what screen resolution are you running? --Falcadore (talk) 01:03, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Its going over the sidebar —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.210.87 (talk) 01:25, 14 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm with Firefox —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.92.151.244 (talk) 00:00, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

So am I. No problems. Which Firefox? A late version or an older one? --Falcadore (talk) 00:06, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Think I've fixed it. Please let me know if that works. --Falcadore (talk) 06:28, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

yes it works,thanks 118.92.130.226 (talk) 07:15, 30 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

2009 enduro drivers edit

Andrew Thompson has been confirmed to drive with Tony D'Alberto see here: http://www.v8supercars.com.au/v8data/2009/evnt_277/drventry.asp?ssn=2009&eid=277&ind=M 118.92.151.244 (talk) 00:23, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Brad Jones and Andrew Jones are confirmed as Brad Jones Racing enduros as well (see link above)118.92.151.244 (talk) 00:23, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's not actually a confirmation but rather official speculation. Needs a team announcement or at least just a line from Brad Jones or Tony D'Alberto saying, 'this is our guy' --Falcadore (talk) 00:23, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

well it is the offical entry list --118.92.151.244 (talk) 00:27, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't make them confirmed drivers. The Teams haven't seen fit to announce, and certainly BJR may be waiting to see if they can get Max Wilson. And in any case the official entry list would be issued by the event surely? V8 Supercar have published several such lists before, some quite inaccurate. --Falcadore (talk) 01:08, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
