Beryl a Hurricane?
editBeryl's winds were measured at 63 knots, which nowadays is rounded up to the nearest 5...65 knots, hurricane strength. Thoughts? -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 22:44, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Good question. I would say in the re-analysis of the Hurricane Database, it will be upgraded. Hurricanehink 22:46, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- What's good about having your own, personal hurricane database is that you can make your own objective descisions. I list Beryl in my database as a hurricane. If Beryl happened today, I'm convinced it would be designated a hurricane. But such a change is not allowed here per the original research policy. -- Hurricane Eric archive -- my dropsonde 02:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Because such a decision is not objective. Jdorje 01:53, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
- I've found in Ernesto's report that an aircraft found winds around the same as Beryl's, at 62 knots.Mitchazenia V3.0 21:08, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Images for each storm
edit- Hurricane Alberto
- Subtropical Storm One
- Tropical Storm Beryl- This is an edited version of the one from the article.
- Tropical Storm Chris
- Hurricane Debby
- Ernesto- Bad news. There's no Ernesto picture. :(
- Well, I couldn't get all of them... It was bound to happen :( 1981 might be similar to this. I'll do that year later. Hurricanehink 20:11, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm really sorry. But work done :) juan andrés 04:27, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
B-Class yet?
editWell, here's my work so far:
- Lengthened Ernesto.
- Added a seasonal activity section.
- Referneces added.
- Chris has more impact.
Think its ready?Mitchazenia V3.0 21:06, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- {{tl:Cite web}} is needed throughout the entire article. The sections need better storm histories. The whole thing needs a copyedit. Useless things should be trimmed (like mentioning SS1 was the first subtropical storm; it was the only subtropical storm). In general, act as if you were writing individual articles for each storm. That's what's needed for each section; good storm history covering the basics, and impact for everywhere it affected. Research a bit. Hurricanehink (talk) 21:20, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Can you do the cite web-as i am no good at it.Mitchazenia V3.0 21:23, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- You gotta learn :P Hurricanehink (talk) 21:40, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- I've tried. I went poorly.Mitchazenia V3.0 22:00, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Which is why you should experiment and keep trying until it works. Remember, you need to cite every last statement in the entire article. Hurricanehink (talk) 22:08, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think it is now B-class as the sections were expanded and cited. CrazyC83 (talk) 16:52, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Ernesto picture
editThis will be biting me for ages. I know that's Ernesto, but I really believe a more "complete" picture can be found, so I uploaded this IR image as a placeholder until a better image can be found, which I'm working on. Jake52 My talk 07:24, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- There's probably one in the CLASS archives. You might be able to use old (1978-85) GAC data if you have a registered version of HRPT Reader. Good kitty 17:57, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Replaced with a FAR better image. Jake52 My talk 20:37, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- What's the source for that? The source you provided looks nothing like the image in the article. Hurricanehink (talk) 20:41, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, little misstep there, that's the profile on the old picture. Hold on, I'll upload the picture with the updated data. Jake52 My talk 20:52, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
- I used the CLASS GAC archives to do Ernesto here and, as an epilogue, I uploaded all storms in need of pictures to the 79 season. I will do Katrina (81) later, but after Katrina, I'll be occupied with picture searching on recent storms so we have the best pictures for the best articles. Todo
editHere's a quick look-through.
- Longer lede (probably merge season impact with lede, since that section is redundant)
- Better infobox image (use one of the nice maps we have)
- Update to (and add) 2008 USD
- Make sure all units are correct, both and rounding and in spacing
- Expand impact in Alberto and SS1
- Add locations to key events in a storm history, to help readers understand where the storm is
- SS1 needs a source for the first paragraph
- TD3 needs a source
- Check for spelling errors and grammar errors; also read through it to make sure the storm history makes sense to both non-experts and experts alike. These are some troublesome sentences
- Debby began life as a tropical wave that degenerated shortly after leaving the coast of Africa
- took an almost straight course to the northeast for its entire life
♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 23:52, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed first, sixth, seventh, and eighth items (I believe.) We still need track images added before submitting to GA. The problem is, a track for TD6 does not appear to exist in any formal or informal database at the current time. Thegreatdr (talk) 14:28, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the items above are fixed, so I've submitted the article for GAN. Thegreatdr (talk) 04:05, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
GA Review
edit- This review is transcluded from Talk:1982 Atlantic hurricane season/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
- Lede
- Can you make the first sentence more original, something stating what was notable about the season? DoneThegreatdr (talk) 23:45, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- Storms
- I'm not convinced with the 115 fatalities from Beryl. I found an official document (which I sadly lost when my computer crashed) from the United Nations that stated only three fatalities occurred due to Beryl. Also, the reference being used to source the 115 fatalities does not mention any deaths. Source of three fatalities Done Thegreatdr (talk) 20:51, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- The last sentence in the hurricane debby section needs a reference Done Thegreatdr (talk) 19:12, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- Names
- There's redundancy in this section, retirement is stated twice and the section is not referenced. Done Thegreatdr (talk) 19:26, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Overall the writing is up to GA standards but there are factual and referencing issues. As such, I'm putting the article on hold for the time being. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 17:35, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, looks good I'm going to pass the article. Nice job DR. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 22:11, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
