Ferrari 250 LM vs 275 LM

edit

I had originally written the article up using the model name Ferrari 275LM as that is what it has been called by most of the book-literature.

I agree that I have seen some racing websites that refer to it as a 250LM in their results tables. The 275 was a closed-top evolution of the 1963 race-winning 250P with a bigger engine. Although Ferrari had a variety of naming nomenclature for its models, at this time for the V12 he was naming them based on the individual cylinder size: The 1963 race-winning Ferrari 250 had a 3-litre V12 (therefore 3000 ÷12 =250) whereas the 275LM had moved up to a 3.3 litre V12 (3300 ÷12 =275) hence the differentiation. The 1964 race-winner was called the 275P (a 3.3-litre engine) as was the 1965 race-winning 275LM, and 275P2 entrants. This is mentioned in the wiki-article on Ferrari: Ferrari#naming conventions. In that same race was the 330P2 named for its 4.0-litre V12 and the 365 P2 with its 4.4-litre V12. Hence I would prefer to see the edit revert to what it was previously, maintaining the model-naming consistency. Philby NZ (talk) 06:42, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
