editApril 29th. Heads up. The fine never happened. Below is a report from the Cincinnati Commercial Gazette published on 05-10-1885
"Isn't it just about time to let "drop" that absurd story about the Cincinnati team being fined twenty-five dollars each, and three of them asking for their release. No fine has yet been inflicted on any player of the team, and no one has ever desired his release, much less asked for it. A foolish remark dropped on the field was worked up into a sensation, and the sensation spread. That's all there is to the absurd story."
