Culture, Arts, and Cuisine

edit

I don't understand why this page has too many Shi'ite symbolism and culture. I believe this Shi'a rich content, albeit being very true, has nothing to do with the multiconfessional Lebanese culture.

Further more, I don't see what a cult Shi'a book is doing in the Culture, Arts, and Cuisine rubric? I think it should be moved from that sub-section to another one (one on another page more preferably) to keep this portal one about Lebanon, and not religion or religious parties. The book is not even related to anything that is Lebanese, neither by author, nor historic ties... I would also like to point out that Hezbollah and Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah are occupying a rather unusually high percentage of this page. I suggest we remake this page one related to Lebanon as a country, not a page serving one single view of the multifaceted/multiflavored Lebanese culture, avoiding as much as possible all POVs that could influence the raison d'etre of this page unilateraly.

Please feel free to make any modifications you like. Be bold! If you mess up, I assure you, there will be plenty of people waiting to hound you for it make things right. —LestatdeLioncourt 12:49, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, feel free to update it. This page is very old and out of date, with an odd Shi'a leaning (Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, etc.). In fact, there's some book on it whose connection to Lebanon is entirely unknown to me. — George Saliba [talk] 22:30, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have updated this portal to be as representative of a neutral Lebanon as much as possible. I hope there will be more editors involved in this updating process, as the portal should be constantly revived with the new material. Any comments?

Hi Jixavius. Great start so far. One thing to consider is that these needn't be one-off articles, linking to news articles outside of Wikipedia. They should be short summaries of Wikipedia articles (often just a copy of the article's introduction), that then link to the more indepth articles inside Wikipedia. This is generally so that we can be sure the information is vetted - the information is accurate, verifiable, noteworthy, etc. This may not always be necessary, but it will also save you a lot manual work searching for articles, writing summaries, etc. :) Cheers. — George Saliba [talk] 04:48, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the useful feedback George! :) I surely will keep that in mind as I re-contribute to updating the portal on the next free slot in my agenda. Glad you liked the revamp however... Cheers GS! -- Jixavius 10:12, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
