Wikilink to Help:Minor edit edit

I don't think there would be an uproar if it was done, but this message could do with a link to a page describing minor edits. Any objections? jnothman talk 11:22, 4 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I made this change, and as Dbenbenn may have discovered, it doesn't work. All the time, that is. He didn't make any edit summary note or talk page note and that is an annoyance. Indeed, the link does work, but only in preview mode and not in edit mode. I assume a bug. jnothman talk 02:19, 5 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
It seems that this must have just been a quirk caused by multiple servers, where I possibly hallucinated a pattern - when I try the change on a personal copy of Wikipedia, use of HTML works fine; use of wikimarkup does not. Is it worthwhile to have another attempt? jnothman talk 08:08, 5 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
It seemed to be working for me, but it did cause a bit of a problem -- previously clicking anywhere on the phrase toggeld the minor edit status, but if the click was near the linked text it took the browser to follow the link instead, which was a bit confusing. I think it gets in the way. I usually click anywhere where the text is displayed (not just the box). Can we remove this please (or at least put a small question mark at the end)? --Thorpe | talk 15:17, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ingoolemo added an "id" tag to the Help:Minor edit link, so if you want to hide it, you can do so by adding the line
#minoredit_helplink {display: none}
to your monobook.css (or the appropriate page if you use a different skin) – Gurch 11:01, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about having it more seamless like MediaWiki does: "This is a minor edit." And a popup window showing what is NOT considered a minor edit (since it's a shorter list) would be nice too (better yet, have MediaWiki automatically detect a minor edit and check the box automatically). -Eekerz (talk) 20:28, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hiding the link edit

Personally, I hate the link because it's too easy to accidentally click (and if I want to know about minor edits, I can easily enough open a new tab and go to WP:MINOR manually). With the recent edit to this message, the previous method of hiding the link now results in a checkbox labeled "This is a". The best I've been able to come up with so far to hide it now without looking stupid is this:

span#minoredit_helplink a { display:none; }
span#minoredit_helplink:before { content:'minor edit'; }

Hope this helps anyone else. Anomie 02:30, 28 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm no expert but is there a reason not to put a span around the whole thing, to allow complete hiding? ~ Amory (utc) 04:47, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
You want an unlabeled checkbox? You can use #mw-editpage-minoredit for that. Anomie 11:37, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
