K. Madhu made his debut as a director in 1986, with Malarum Kiliyum, starring Mammootty. Though, the film failed in creating an impact, Madhu succeeded in getting a career break in 1987 with Irupatham Noottandu starring Mohanlal. It was followed by Oru CBI Diary Kurippu (1988). Though he has worked with several script writers, most of his successful films were with S. N. Swamy. Writer Swamy and Madhu has collaborated for many a films, debuting with Irupatham Noottandu and later in Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, Moonnam Mura, Nariman, Sethurama Iyer CBI among others. Most of them were in the legal, crime, thriller genres. They took a break after Rahasya Police (2009). In 2017, he announced a multilingual historical film titled Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma, followed by a sequel.
