Death circumstances as WWI victim

edit

I have been looking up his name in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website Debt of Honour Register but do not find anyone matching his name and date of death under WWI Commonwealth service casualties. The only Albert Edward Johnstone (to give the shooter's full name, as per Olympedia) was a soldier killed in 1916 aged only 22 and therefore too young to be the AEJ born in 1878. There is an Albert Johnston, Pte Royal Scots, who died on 24 July 1918 and who is listed as a no known grave casualty on the Soissons Memorial in France but details of his age, home and family are lacking. On these grounds the sports shooter could be ruled out as a WWI casualty (unless he is a candidate for discovery by the In From The Cold Project). No Albert Johnstones/Johnstons are presently listed by the CWGC as missing from the South African forces.Cloptonson (talk) 09:02, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
