The Devil in the White City is an unreleased crime thriller miniseries based on the book of the same name by Erik Larson.
Premise
editTakes place during the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, where Daniel Burnham looked to make his mark by making the Fair a success, and the growing killing spree of serial killer H. H. Holmes.
Production
editThe project first began as a film, which in August 2015 Paramount Pictures won the distribution rights for. The film would see Leonardo DiCaprio star as H. H. Holmes, with Martin Scorsese directing from a script by Billy Ray.[1]
The project didn't see any further developments until February 2019, where it was redeveloped into a miniseries at Hulu, to be written by Sam Shaw.[2] In January 2022, it was announced Keanu Reeves had entered negotiations to star as Daniel Burnham, with Todd Field set to direct the first two episodes.[3] Hulu officially greenlit the series in August, with Reeves confirmed to star.[4] On October 7, 2022, it was announced that Reeves left the series.[5] Few days later, it was reported that Field has exited the series.[6] On March 6, 2023, it was announced that Hulu would not move forward with the series.[7]
