Amr Nohan Nabeih (born October 21, 1988) is an Egyptian lawyer, human rights activist, and co-founder of the Qaf Center for Advocacy and Legal Consultations established in 2022.[1]

Early Life and Education edit

Amr Nohan was born in El Agami neighborhood, Alexandria Governorate. He graduated from Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University in 2011, and he obtained his law degree from the same university. He embarked on postgraduate studies during his first three-year detention period in a free speech case, a request that authorities denied.[2]

Arrest and Release edit

Amr Nohan was arrested twice during the reign of Sisi. His first arrest was for three years on charges of mocking President Sisi. His second arrest, for three and a half years, was on charges of belonging to a leftist group.[2]

He was released by a presidential pardon on October 16, 2022, which some considered an important step towards enhancing human rights and freedoms in Egypt.[3]

Human Rights Activities edit

Amr Nohan's experience of detention and torture has led him to dedicate his activities to defending human rights.[4]
