What is the purpose of this Category? edit

This category appears to overlap and/or duplicate Category:Minimum gauge railways.

  1. Is the intention for it to become a sub category of the above?
  2. What is definition of British miniature railways?
  3. Is the category really needed?

Minimum Gauge Railways have Heywood's entire book devoted to them and their definition. They are the smallest gauge of railway (usually taken as fifteen or eighteen inch gauge) taken as being a useful "working" railway, originally for estate use. Miniature railways are rather different from this - they are miniaturised representations of some aspect of full size practice. Although some minimum gauge railways (most of the RH&DR, most contemporary features of the R&ER) are an overlap. Heywood's original Eaton Hall railway, and today's Perrygrove Railway, are not miniature railways. Andy Dingley (talk) 16:05, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
In which case can I also add Category:Fifteen inch gauge railways into this discussion and go back to my second question - but really the third question is relevant as I would suggest that many of the railways put into Category:British miniature railways and not as such. --Stewart (talk | edits) 16:23, 23 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
