Note: Though it states in the Guide to writing better articles that generally fictional articles should be written in present tense, all Tolkien legendarium-related articles that cover in-universe material before the current action must be written in past tense. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Middle-earth/Standards for more information about this and other article standards.

Some Family tree templates are overused in articles. They have limited relevance, take up a lot of space, and cannot be tailored to the character or event they are applied to. It would be better to just put a non-template tree into articles and allow editors to tailor them to the article. The Half-elven template is a prime example of overuse and distortion. Its perfect for articles about Half-elven characters like Earendil or Elrond. Its distorting in an article about the House of Thingol. It would be better for even the Half-elven Luthien to have a different tree that prominently displays descent from her and leaves descent from others, like Finwe, to their articles. Tree should fit article, not article fit template.Tttom121:54, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
