Redirects
editMany of the listed pages in this category are redirects to the page Getty Images:
- Comstock (library)
- FilmMagic
- The Image Bank
- Index Stock
- Photos.com
- Thinkstock
- Tony Stone Images
- Wireimage
- WireImage
Of 27 pages in this category, 9 (1/3) redirect the page Getty Images. While those redirects are useful, categorizing those redirects to create a category full of links that point to the same page is pointless and deceiving. A list of previous acquisitions could be created on Getty Images' page, I don' t think there is a need to hijack Wikipedia's category system to do this. I read the guidelines WP:RCAT which does not condemn categorizing redirects, but does not evoke either such a case where a company showcases its portfolio through categorized redirects. Considering Wikipedia's policy towards companies promoting themselves on Wikipedia, I doubt that such a "trick" is OK.
Also:
- The John Moore photograph of Honduran child link redirects to the photographer's page, no direct link with Getty.
- The Michael Ochs Archives link redirect to the photographer's page, no direct link with Getty (just sold its archives to Getty...).
Those two photographers' pages are getting a link from the Getty Images category through the magic of themed redirects, even though they do not have a direct relation with Getty Images and should not appear here. Let' s not encourage the existence categorized redirect of all the photographs/stocks hosted by Getty Images and that redirect to their photographers, that would be a huge mess, and that is not the point of redirects.
Also :
- The StockXpert link redirects to the freeImages page which is already in the list.
- The Hulton Archive and Hulton Press Library point to the same section of the Picture Post page.
So some cleanup is required there too. Berghausener (talk) 17:23, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
