Examples of decorative purposes might be useful here. For example, is it OK for a band with a discography section to include album covers in that section? What about a discography section with virtually no text but with a gallery of album covers? Rklawton 15:04, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use: De facto galleries? edit

I created a category for King Crimson's album-covers.

Such categories could serve as de facto galleries.

Have we had complaints form artists, musicians, or other copyright-holders that such de facto galleries exceed fair use?

Discussion occured at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums.
Album-cover categories should include the following wiki markup phrase

__NOGALLERY__ <!--Do not remove this tag, as displaying these fair-use images in a gallery violates Wikipedia policy.-->

This wiki-code prevents the category from serving as a de facto gallery of the artist's works. Please use this code on album-cover categories for consistency with Wikipedia's fair-use policies---and, more importantly, for compliance with copyright laws and respect for artists.
