HistoryEdit

Basketball at the Commonwealth Games was held for the first time in 2006 when the games were held in Melbourne. Australia won the first ever Commonwealth Games Gold Medal in both the men's and women's competitions while New Zealand's teams and England's teams walked away with Silver and Bronze Medals respectively. It was announced in 2011 that Basketball will return to the games at the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Gold Coast. A total of 16 teams (8 men and 8 women) are scheduled to compete in 2018.[2]

Although considered to be one of the strongest Basketball nations in the world, Canada has never entered a men's or women's team in the Commonwealth Games Basketball competitions, however it will do so in 2018 in both tournamens.
