Thank you Ukexpat for your response,it was helpful, though the article( Gbenga Toyosi Olawepo) isnt perfect yet. Would you kindly go through it and make your contributions in terms of formatting etc. Thanks Kamal-din (talk) 07:29, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Response to recomendation for Deletion by Orange Mike

Content of this article can be modified as recommended, however notability should not be the cause for deletion. Readers across the globe have access to the writing of this author and wikipedia should offer information for those looking.

Famous people references were added as trivia and to reinforce notability. These can be removed and/or replaced with more background information, if recommended.

Professor Charles Stuart-Harris

hi,

i have put some links to his books in for now, although the page doesnt seem to think i have references still. this coding is not partiuarly user friendly.

if you can help me with that it would be great. he has many papers and books out there, most importantly in the lancet etc. i am trying to collate everything, but due to the older nature of a lot of these, getting online links is a little difficult. i will try my best to link in what i can.

more importantly im trying to tie this in with other wiki citations, i.e on influenza, the NHS and polio. also with universities an insitutions that he worked in.

any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback on the article. Regarding notability, what articles in The Times and The Scotman (scottish quality paper) on the companies progress and unique offering suffice as a reliable source and notable.

thanks so much for your help

Hi,

I'm trying desperately to get this right but the content keeps getting flagged. I understand the rules and have read the pages from Wiki though it's not working. How do I talk to someone live about this or at least get a better explanation. I also couldn't find the place to put 'hang on' for the editors to see.

Thank you.

Thank you for your response to my question about publishing, ukexpat, if indeed that's what it was (I'm not sure of anything here) As you've gathered I'm not terribly familiar with Wikipedia as an editor- I should probably be much more thorough when reading the information and will try to be in future! Re: Kidnapping of Michaela Garecht

Hello

Thank you for your message and for your comments regarding the page I created.

I agree that my article definately needs a lot of work to make it more 'wikipedia appropriate'. I will definately make the changes you have suggested. However I do believe that it shoud not be deleted for the reason you suggest. Firstly it would most certainly be eligible under the category of 'kidnapped american children': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Kidnapped_American_children.

Secondly I think the connection to the high profile Jaycee Lee Dugard and Phillip Garrido is also important.

Finally I agree with one of the points which were raised on the deletion log- this was huge event which could have been so different had Amber Alert, the internet etc been availiable. Perhaps the article could be written more from that angle?

Appreciate your help

Thanks.

Ebrahim Desai

I would appreciate if you could assist in this discussion as I disagree with the editor who has removed the fatwas from the fatwa issuing mufti's biography calling it defamatory. That makes no sense. How can a mans own work and religious edict be libellous or even defamatory? He has consistantly removed without reaching consensus or waiting the result following a discussion. image on 'the birth of coffee' article

Hi ukexpat, Thanks for editing The Birth of Coffee. I would really love for the image on that page to be large and powerful, as the article is about a documentary photography project and the photography work is as important as the words about it, in my mind. Proposed deletion of Dynamic Language

The article Dynamic Language has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No solid evidence of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Orange Mike | Talk 19:35, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your input. I am continuing to do research on Fresno Bee microfilm archives to verify the information about the reasons for camp closure. I have added a citation for the "all that remains of camp" sentence--the photos are posted on the Mar_y_Mac Facebook page. I hope this qualifies as a source!

The camp served more than 10,000 kids from the Fresno area thoughout its years, and its creation, the years it flourished, and its subsequent demise reflect the demographical, ecological and socio-economical changes of post-WWII California. Notable, indeed!

Society for Mormon Philosophy and Theology stub

Thank you, Ukexpat, for your swift and thorough reply. Indeed I had been reviewing the MOS, with special attention to notability. Since it is within an academic niche, the sources tend to be narrow, however important the work is viewed within that domain. The problem of small-press, academic, and blog-based news may have stymied me here.

Re: O'Neills of Puerto Rico

It was already discussed and decided to merge the O'Neills of Puerto Rico article into O'Neill dynasty, see Talk:O'Neill dynasty. The Puerto Rico article was simply copied and pasted into the dynasty article, with the exception of the list of military service, so you are mistaken if the Puerto Rico article contained "far more content". There seems to be no encyclopedic value to the list, however, and that was why I excluded it. Many families have had numerous members join military service, but that does not warrant entry into an encyclopedia. If there was greater research on the more important individuals, then I would have kept it. Of course, you are welcome to edit it, but unless more information is included than simply a list, I doubt there will be consensus to keep it. [tk] XANDERLIPTAK 05:53, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Deletion nomination

UKexpat - Adding an article on Wikipedia has become a lot more difficult than I thought it was going to be. Your assertion "One award and one reference in a local paper is not enough to keep in the face of our usual presumption that grade schools are not notable" is disappointing. It's a national award given by the US Dept. of Education. Very few schools across the country have won more than once--we've received it twice. Ophelia Bretnacher is the issue of a genuine debate on the rights of European citizens.

The problem is that although there is a cooperation agreement between the 2 European countries France and Hungary (Treaty of Lisbon), the agreement did, in the case of both the executive and the judiciary, not been observed for these two European countries, regarding the investigation of 2 fonts Hungarian and French, and also in judicial cooperation, for transmissions of autopsy findings in violation of new European laws. I have a jpeg of their logo that Pavithra Sri Prakash at Shilpa Arhictects sent me for my final project presentation. She also said that we could use it for the wikipedia article. I went ahead and added it but am not sure if you think it is in the right place on the article. I hope i did it right. Please feel free to place the logo elsewhere. Also, if you could move the article to the main space that would be fabulous. Thanks again for all your help!

Attracting attention

Hi UKexpat, I noticed your comment at the karaoke singer and around, also that you seem to be well informed as to the places to notify of issues, I have started this RFC and have added it to the history and Geography section but I want to attract as much attention from people that might want to comment, perhaps the Brazil people but I am not sure, is there anymore locations I could notify? Your changes on Spotify

I notice you recently reverted some changes on the page for Spotify, claiming that they amounted to a how-to on circumventing various Spotify restrictions. I don't believe that was the case - the additions offer no real help to anyone wanting to do what's described, and I believe the fact that users can and do exploit these holes is notable. I appreciate you might disagree, so please come to the talk page and discuss this. --Jonnty (talk) 01:06, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your feed-back on my article, Ayodele Awojobi.

I see the sense in the points you have made. Where "flowery" phrases have actually been made by known persons in describing the subject of my article (Ayodele Awojobi), I guess it's only appropriate to cite these, or even include direct quotes.

I'll improve the language and appreciate your continuos supervision. Thanks, Ukexpat.

Thanks for your help with my page on DJ Frank E

Thank you! I appreciate your help! Chrismarez/DJ_Frank_E I added some more sources and edited the bio a little bit more. Would you mind looking over it once more and potentially moving it.

I understand that blogs aren't viable sources but the music blog that I cite is published by one of the largest alternative weeklies in the country. Does that effect the validity of the source? I mean would a blog published by the new york times not be considered a viable source either?

Some of the other sources that I cite are www.tonibraxton.com, djboth.net, and even a link to a fan letter from Madonna. Do I have enough viable sources to move this page?

Thanks for your time! --Chrismarez (talk) 21:12, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Reply from KSatSCB re: Wikipedia Article on "Shabby chic"

Dear ukexpat:

Thank you for your message of December 11, 2009, advising that you have reverted all of the recent changes I submitted to the Wikipedia article on “Shabby chic”. While your comments are appreciated, my efforts to edit the article were not for the primary purpose of advertising the SHABBY CHIC brand. Rather, these edits corrected several inaccuracies in the unreferenced article, and provided supporting references in the form of a New York Times article and United States Trademark Office records of trademark registrations for the term.

You have suggested that an article about the SHABBY CHIC brand should be written separately rather than “destroying the existing article about the concept”. However, the brand is inseparable from and intertwined with the “concept” because the term cannot be used without reference to its creator, Rachel Ashwell. This is evidenced by the October 14, 2009 New York Times article (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/15/garden/15shabby.html?pagewanted=1&_r=3&sq=shabby%20chic&st=cse&scp=1) and even by the prior version of the Wikipedia article.

I note that you have further edited the prior version by removing reference to Ms. Ashwell, her stores, and the trademarks. By deleting these items, you are disassociating the “concept” from the brand and its originator. I encourage you to see other Wikipedia entries, such as the article on “telephone” at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone, which neither omits mention of Alexander Graham Bell nor the American Telephone & Telegraph company, because of their relevance to the particular item. Readers of this article would be poorly served without information about the originator and the company that popularized the device. Similarly, it is important that those seeking information about the Shabby Chic “concept” are educated about its creator and the history of her business as it relates to the term. In the absence of such information, the article will likely cause confusion.

Finally, because Shabby Chic Brands, Inc. is the owner of numerous trademark registrations for SHABBY CHIC in the United States and globally, and protects and enforces its trademark rights against those who use SHABBY CHIC without authorization, the article as it now stands could have the effect of encouraging or promoting such unauthorized use and exposing those who rely on or refer to the article to claims of infringement. Surely, Wikipedia is designed to add clarity to people’s knowledge, rather than ambiguity that can expose them to liability.

Accordingly, I request that you reconsider and allow the inclusion of the changes I submitted. If you do not agree, I can instead create an article on “Shabby Chic (brand)” as you suggested, and cross-reference it when I make further changes to eliminate inaccuracies in the “Shabby chic” article.

I look forward to your reply.

Reply from KSatSCB re: Wikipedia Article on "Shabby chic"

Dear Ukexpat:

Thank you for your reply.

Before I proceed with a Request for Editor Assistance, I respectfully request that you provide support for your contention that “Shabby chic” as a “concept/style” was “around before Ms. Ashwell registered the trademark”, particularly that “the style was mentioned in UK magazines and on TV long before” (and that these media did not just simply reference Ms. Ashwell). Although the look now associated with the SHABBY CHIC brand may have existed as “country house look” before the 1980’s, Ms. Ashwell, a U.K. national, is credited with coining the term and marketing furnishings of that particular style under the term thereafter. Although some articles seem to credit the World of Interiors magazine as having invented the term, none provides proper reference information to allow readers and researchers to verify this statement, confirm the date of the so-called original use, and determine whether the magazine does not actually reference Ms. Ashwell. You may be misleading readers by suggesting that the “style” was known as “Shabby chic” before Ms. Ashwell, and by allowing readers to believe that the popularity of the term arose from anything other than the efforts of Ms. Ashwell to promote her brand.

As you are no doubt aware, the Wikipedia article is unreferenced, and a quick search of the internet suggests that numerous others are mirroring the information contained therein despite the lack of proper references. The misinformation on this page and absence of descriptions of how the term was created and popularized will likely cause public deception and damage the reputation of living persons (Rachel Ashwell) or organizations (Shabby Chic Brands, Inc.), contrary to Wikipedia’s verifiability policy (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:BURDEN).

Finally, with regard to your statement that I should “not hint at legal threats”, I confirm that I have not done so and have no intention of doing so. I have not suggested that I would sue anyone. My concern is that misinformed readers who rely on the information contained in the Wikipedia article may unwittingly find themselves in a legal dispute because they will mistakenly believe that the term “Shabby Chic” may be freely used to describe a style or products when, in fact, it may not be so used. This is one of the many reasons why I believe it would be better to include notice of possible trademark rights in the article.

I look forward to your reply.

Jane Krakowski

Saw this mentioned at ANI. Regarding your recent edit, the cited source is from 2007 for her relationship with Marc Singer. Though the editor who removed this statement was blocked for making legal threats, the paragraph itself uses the present tense to describe something that may no longer be the case. The newspaper reports appear to date from 2007. Would you consider qualifying the reports of the relationship, or saying 'it was reported in 2007?' I don't know whether it is usual to try to keep performer articles updated with their current relationship. EdJohnston (talk) 17:50, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Dear Ukexpat:

Thank you again for your comments. As suggested, I will proceed to seek further guidance via the Request for Editor Assistance and meanwhile set up the new article on Shabby Chic (brand).

In response to your inquiry about the trademark portfolio outside of the U.S., I understand that such marks are registered in several countries throughout the world, including the United Kingdom and European Community.

Also, despite all of your concerns about the use of the circle-R symbol as a red flag that a particular article is promotional in nature, I have noted that the articles for Kleenex, Bandaid, and Xerox all show the circle-R symbol and discuss the corresponding companies, brands and trademarks, despite some history of generic use.

Also, when I say "my" page, I'm not talking formerly about my ownership of it. I don't mean to miff you. He has so many credits, it is really hard to narrow it down to those that are most significant. If all of them are in the body of the text it makes it very difficult to read and a little pointless. Tarantino saw a lot of his work. Thank you kindly, but in the same time, I am not sure if I can make a difference here. Simple reason, and the truth, those who have time and money and special interest will always spin the information from information neutral to positive towards their special interest goals. What is your take on it? Can Wikipedia be a credible source of information, or it got it's poisoned injection by few who have the time money and power to control it - completely undermining the open, free, and accurate source movement. In sense, proving all the old axioms about those who have and those who do not. Thank you again for your greetings, but I feel this project is all in vain and has been compromised too much - it polluted this great vessel of idea to hold any clear water of truth. Are we so afraid for people to make up their own mind - all so Orwellian - but all under the guise of free media? The rest are held to the standards they themselves do not abide by? Accusatory the tone, and perhaps cynical, but after 6+ years of watching Wikipeda on different and interesting subject, I can not help but feel that to be true. I apologize if I spoke off topic.
