Shabby chic edit

I have reverted all your recent changes to this article. If you want to write an article about the brand you should do so at Shabby Chic (brand) not by destroying the existing article about the concept. Before you attempt to write such an article, please consider the following: your user name suggests that you may be connected with the brand, if so please read WP:COI and in particular note that you are strongly discouraged from creating an article where you have a conflict; we have strict policies against using Wikipedia for promotional purposes and articles that are blatant advertising are speedily deleted and users creating them are blocked from editing; finally (for now) our principal inclusion criterion is notability, supported for product articles by the guidelines at WP:PRODUCT. Please feel free to leave a message on my talk page if I can be of further assistance. – ukexpat (talk) 17:49, 11 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the message on my talk page. I hold by my view that the concept/style is not the same as the brand. Shabby chic was around before Ms Ashwell registered the trademark (indeed the style began in the UK and was mentioned in UK magazines and on TV long before). So as far as I am concerned the brand and Ms Ashwell's activities should be the subject of a separate article. I also removed the references to her in the article as it stands now because, as I read them, they did nothing but promote her and her business and were not appropriate for the article, per WP:SPAM.
Also, with respect to the US trademark, please do not hint at legal threats as they will get you blocked from editing immediately.
If you wish to get other opinions, please do so at Requests for Editor Assistance, but I am pretty confident you will get the same answer. Please note that if you do create Shabby Chic (brand), it will have to be non-promotional and written from a neutral POV. Please also read WP:COI. Hope this helps.  – ukexpat (talk) 17:45, 14 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
We are not going to achieve anything discussing this on our respective talk pages and it is not an area of particular interest to me (I only came across it pursuant to the move request at WP:RM). I would caution you again that an article about a brand that uses the circle-R symbol is very likely to be seen as promotional - the circle-R always sets off alarm bells. One more question, I don't doubt that Ms Ashwell has registered the trademark in the US, but does she have similar registrations in the UK and other parts of the English speaking world? If not, then the brand article would only be relevant for the US, not elsewhere. And one more point, from my quick Google search I can find no evidence that she has sought to enforce the US trademark against infringers, and without doing so she is at risk of losing the registration and the term becoming generic. – ukexpat (talk) 01:49, 15 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please create your article in draft form first as a user subpage at User:KSatSCB/Shabby Chic (brand) rather than in the mainspace. As a draft in userspace you can work on in without fear of it being deleted prematurely. I have looked at the Kleenex, Bandaid, and Xerox articles and nowhere in the text do they use the circle-R, only in the images of logos that appear in the article, and in any event "other stuff exists" is never a helpful argument on Wikipedia. – ukexpat (talk) 18:38, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Shabbychiclogos 2010.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Shabbychiclogos 2010.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore will not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used once again.
  • If you received this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.
  • To opt out of these bot messages, add {{bots|deny=DASHBot}} to somewhere on your talk page.

Your message on my talk page edit

Thanks for the message. I have just returned from vacation so have a bit of a backlog to clear. I will respond in detail as soon as I can, but just briefly on disambiguation - there is no need for a disam page when there are only two relevant articles. Any disambiguation can be done by way of a hatnote. – ukexpat (talk) 13:10, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Shabby Chic (brand) edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Shabby Chic (brand). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shabby Chic (brand). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:03, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for File:RACHEL ASHWELL SHABBY CHIC Logo 2010.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:RACHEL ASHWELL SHABBY CHIC Logo 2010.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Armbrust Talk Contribs 18:07, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
