I have removed the copyright tags from the article Erasmus M. Smithers because there is a credible claim that the text is from the public domain as you said. However, please take the time to fundamentally rewrite it and expand it. It is currently not suitable in tone etc for WP, which is not surprising since it was written in 1903 when the guy was still alive. I hope you will be able to get it up to snuff soon! Welcome. Thanks for your willingness to contribute to Wikipedia. It's true that an old book is probably in the public domain. However there are other reasons why the original article is inappropriate. It is written in the style of a memoir and not an encyclopedia article: it does not conform to the Wikipedia:Manual of style; and it will need very heavy editing to bring it to Wikipedia standards. I strongly recommend that you rewrite the information there in your own words in in a form appropriate for an encyclopedia. However if you insist on reposting the material it will probably not be deleted again, as long as you include a statement that it is in the public domain.

I start with public domain material then change the text as I get more information from other sources. Also I have not removed stylistic changes or additional information posted by others here to the articles I started. I welcome doing future collaboration with historians and resent people who delete robotically without having regard for sharing the history involved.

I assume this is about Howard Cranston Potter. 7 people have thought the article should be speedily deleted because it did not assert WHY he was notable. 4 of them tagged it for speedy deletion, the other 3 (including me, most recently) pressed the button to delete it. Instead of blaming others, perhaps improve what you're writing, rather than simply reposting it time after time without addressing the fundamental problem that was leading to it being deleted time after time. Being someone's father-in-law isn't a sufficient assertion of notability, and there's preciously little else in the article about anything apart from his relatives.
If you disagree that the deletions were right, you have two options: (1) write a better article and avoid the problem that way; (2) go to WP:DRV.
As for the articles that I write, they are all to be found in existing biographical dictionaries such as the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography or the Dictionary of Welsh Biography, and are all properly sourced and referenced. I don't accept the comparison, or the charge of favouritism/bias.

Despite initial difficulty from an "edit cowboy" James Pieronnet Pierce a codeveloper of the Empire mine one of the largest in California was eventually accepted. It was up for months and I only just now found out about it being deleted by another "edit cowboy" when I tried to post the profile of James ben Ali Haggin the developer of one of the largest mines in Nevada.

The website you copied from asserts that they own the copyright to what you copied. You may disagree with them, but we only have your word for it that the original is out of copyright. They say the original was only 'a source', not that they copied it. Wikipedia is not about to get involved in a copyright dispute. Since the article you copied is highly inappropriate for an encyclopedia may I strongly suggest you write an article about James ben Ali Haggin in your own words, using that website as a source, but not copying it. I actually did not edit anything, nor add or subtract from. I just recall retyping it exactly as I found it. Just retyped and posted the original text. As I also found it on the web and with the Source. About 8 years ago tho. Then did add 2 photographs I found elsewhere. I also can't even remember where I did find the article. While I've seen many since, this was and still is the best (to me anyway).

Please be civil, and don't use all caps. We are explaining Wikipedia policies to you, not making things up. Let us explain a few more.
First we can't just take your word for what was said by the copyright owner. It's not that we think you are lying, we just have to be sure for legal reasons. Wikipedia could be prosecuted if we violate copyright law, which is why we are so strict about it. What you need to do is to get the website owner to put a notice on the website saying that the text is in the public domain (this shouldn't be a problem if it is actually a copy of an old document). Alternatively you could tell us how to get in touch with the copyright owner herself. Then we can verify things for ourselves. This would have to be through an email that would clearly identify her as being associated with the website.

Can I also remind you that a person has to be notable to get an article on Wikipedia. It is not clear that James ben Ali Haggin is notable. From reading the website he seems to have been a rich farmer, only significant because of his house. It would be helpful to have a brief summary of his achievements. DJ Only someone who likes making arbitrary rulings out of complete ignorance and laziness would have made the mistakes that you did. All I have to do is look at the subjects that you added to see that half or more are not as well known as James ben Ali Haggin. He is notable on numerous grounds as a lawyer, rancher, miner and horse breeder. He was also notable for being part Turkish among Turkish Americans. Also the page that the public domain text is on has the owners email address. Not contacting her to ask whether her note is a forgery is your omission not mine. I have also found out that it is possible for an edit cowboy to arbitarily remove an article which another editor has negotiated changes into eventual approval but that is another historic profile Pierce.

You will not make any friends here if you continue like this. Wikipedia is a community effort and you need to abide by its rules and conventions if you want to participate. The process of checking copyright assertion takes time, and your impatience is not helping.
Can I also point out that the text that you pasted into Wikipedia is entirely inappropriate for an encyclopedia article and at best will require extensive editing to conform to theWikipedia:Manual of style. DJ What you have demonstrated is power, subjective judgement and arbitraryness. You have totally removed an article without even checking with the person whose copyright you not they are claiming that the article is under. Addition of information and stylistic changes can not be made to a void space. Are you going to replace the article when you have bothered to contact Linda Haggin Peck? Most of the historians that I know that I bring up Wikipedia to are either mystified by how to join or are burned out from having done so. There is no reason why I should accept that Caryl Churchill is notable but my knowledge of drama performance in England is limited and I can accept that. Most of my new article additions have been articles from before 75 years ago which I added additional information to. That period is longer in Britain I know but it is not the same law here. As reviewing administrator, I think the notability as a mining pioneer is fine. But, and it is a very big but, it appears that this is also a copyright violation--see the talk page. You are responsible for the content you paste from other sites, and it appears exceedingly likely that the author of that page did not have permission for the material she used from a printed source. Whether she did or did not give you permission under WP:GFDL, which is much more than just permission to use in WP, is irrelevant. If you would like to claim that you did not use more than a small fair use excerpt from that source, please provide exact quotation marks for the material used. Be aware that paraphrase does not meet our policy. The information DJClayworth posted above with respect to another article is perfectly correct. (and the current US copyright date before which material is Public Domain is 95 years for published works, unless you can show it falls under the various exceptions.) I did not understand the 95 years to extend to a work published that early. I understood it as present and future works. In either case it would be good to have Linda Haggin Peck do the rewrite because she has additional info that is not in the book. Would that put works by someone who died in 1916 back under copyright? That is less than 95 years, if so Jack London's heirs now have a fortune in the royalties coming from US publishers that they no longer thought they had. I don't know what that means. How could you possibly think a copyright from 2006 (as the page you copied from was clearly marked) was in the public domain? Well, here's your notice. In the United States, generally if the work was created after January 1, 1978, the work is copyrighted for the life of the author plus seventy years, meaning you would take the date of death of the author of the work and add seventy years to it to find when the copyright lapsed (this is similar to most United Kingdom copyrights). That means that if the author of that web page died back in 2006, the copyright wouldn't lapse until 2076. In some cases the copyright may last longer. There are many arcane rules but essentially, nothing you ever come across that is not a U.S. Federal government work and which doesn't say, expressly, that it is released into the public domain, is out of copyrighted if it dates after 1923. Let me translate further: Do not post any text on Wikipedia whose source doesn't clearly date to December 31, 1922 or earlier unless it says it is in the public domain, is under a free license, or is a work of the U.S. federal government. And again, 70 years plus life of the author is for copyrights starting after 1978. 1923 is the date for before that. Biographical information is going to have overlapping sections regardless of the source. I do not consider myself to be a fan of Hernandez and I am curious to see what the entry you had removed said. In either case what should have been done is clearly different from what you did which was wrong. A person with Ambassadorial status is clearly of sufficient notability. Hello! I have recently been re-reading Lord Churchill's Coup by Stephen Saunders Webb, which includes a highly detailed section on the Boston revolt. The book describes two times during the course of the revolt when Andros was arrested. First was when he left Fort Mary with his aides and confronted his own rebellious council; the militia officers with the council arrested him and placed him under house arrest. Second was when a band of militia from the countryside marched into Boston and brought him to the jail itself. Unless Bond was an officer of that militia group, I am guessing he was one of those who arrested Andros at the council meeting. Unfortunately, you set about it the wrong way - by deleting the content of Nathaniel Prime to copy it to the two new articles you lost the record of the contributions of all previous editors and made it look as if you had written the pieces yourself. I'm unpicking the muddle. I've left the financier as the Primary Topic, and the other man at (naval officer), and placed the {{copied}} template to acknowledge that the content of the naval officer article came from the other one. If you believe that they are equally likely to be sought in the encyclopedia, please do a formal Move Request to move the financier to Nathaniel Prime (financier). That's the way to do page moves. There has been important news about the Khalifa Point refinery this month and construction steps have begun. I will edit my previous text to the article to make it more accurate. If the citation was from Eighteen .com .pk or the Ministry of Energy .gov.pk I would understand and accept your point but many news stories result from a reporter editorializing and commenting on a press release or a press release may result from a newsworthy event. My word Hipal you are cheesier than I initially thought. I see that you removed the description of Jon Ossoffs father. This section of Kelly Loefflers article is a description of her father's career that there is a description of parents careers is normal. It is usually at the beginning of articles as with Kelly Loeffler than in personal life.
Loeffler was born in Bloomington, Illinois to Don and Lynda (née Munsell) Loeffler, and raised on her family's corn and soybean farm in Stanford, Illinois.

If mentioning brand ambassador arrangements violated Wikipedia the content policy large amounts of the existing BLPs of sports and entertainment stars would need to be removed. e.g. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_Woods#Endorsements You also removed descriptive text regarding Jon Ossoff's father Richard Ossoff. The BLPs usually describe parents early in the article and a citation needed would have been more appropriate. Your going to other articles appears to be referenced behavior. When it is possible to see several whole paragraphs on the same subject on the Wikipedia biography of another Living Person Tiger Woods and not write so much as a sentence about the brand ambassador positions of Mahira Khan it obviously has nothing to do with Wikipedia content rules. Nor are you by any means acting in good faith you have some sort of thing for Mahira Khan. Each time I added information about Mahira Khan you also reverted information in other Wikipedia article edits I had made though they had no connection to Mahira Khan. I have seen this sort of problem before you are acting as a judge regarding a company in Pakistan while being an editor from New York. The two references I cite are from major Pakistani news journals. The first describes Premier Group as a major Pakistani business group. The Premier Group is one of Pakistans largest companies I provided references and some other editor felt that the number of references and notability was inadequate. There is not much which can be done about the arbitrary decisions of other editors. I had hoped to put the article back up but got discouraged by the thought that the editor who thought the article had inadequate references or notability might be lurking and repeat their error. There were several problems with your attempt to change the Santa Fe Group article into EAC Invest A/S. Your first attempt appear to be a cut-and-paste move, and an informational template message about this is given below. Your second attempt at moving the page was broken, as it moved the page into the Wikipedia: namespace instead. In any case, since EAC Invest A/S is no longer a red link, you'll need to file a WP:Requested move.
Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Santa Fe Group. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Moving the article to a project page is not going to help. If you're that unfamiliar with Wikipedia's mechanism of renaming pages, you should really make a request and wait for others to sort things out. The simplest course of action now, presuming the change is uncontroversial, would be for you to request speedy deletion of the new EAC Invest A/S page that you created by placing the {{db-g7}} tag there. Then, when an admin has deleted the page (might have to wait several hours or up to days), use the Move button to rename the Santa Fe Group article to EAC Invest A/S. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:19, 17 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

The Santa Fe Relocation business was sold as far back as 2019 and the article which is title Santa Fe Group had only been changed to that title shortly before in 2015 yet it has not been appropriately retitled. The corporate changes separating the Santa Fe Relocation business from EAC Invest A/S are also referenced within the article. It seems the editors criticizing me have not read the Wikipedia article or looked for news articles on the companies.
